I have lived in several large cities where bus service from the airport to downtown was excellent.  Most cities on the West Coast have great service.  I think Indepedence has never embraced bus service, so I guess it is just the way of things  here.  Traveling from my house to say the Independence Center takes a little while, to take a bus I have heard is a big ordeal.  Toriano, what is your opinion on the bus service here?  You have lived in other cities, so how does ours compare?  Most young would like a better bus service to get to the colleges.  It would take someone in leadership or a group to see the benefit of bus service as a plus for the city, not as a detriment.

toriano......I enjoy your insight on football for sure......but I hAVE to say in THIS case I agree with the S.S.Minnow......WHO uses the word "migrate" to describe traveling  or "getting around ?...........would you say traffic is good today as there aren't many cars "migrating" on I-70?..........of course not.......migrate denotes a negative connotation for the poor........as when people think of "poor migrant " workers in Calfornia.....migrating around to find veggies to pick...........your a smart guy toriano..........I think you have a firm grip on language skills as well as an understandng of semantics and connotations.........but it was a brilliant rebuttal........ROFL.....which only serves to help me prove MY assertion........ ha ha ha...............bus service is severely lacking in KC and the surrounding cities.,.........unless you live and TRAVEL (migrate) down the inner city corridor........why wouldn't you use the word "travel" instead of "migrate?"........your word choice is BEYOND suspect and continues to show how people in the KC metro area VIEW people who choose (have) to use public transportation..........funny.............New York City , Boston, Philly , Portland, Seattle , Chicago and a hundred other major cities have never had the "stigma " attached to public transportation that is in our area........this attitude is perpetuated by our city leaders in what they SAY and DO.......about public transportation.......I agree with civil as for the challenges of the outlying suburban cities with public transportation.......but this should never have been used as an excuse to fail.......people as well as cities FIND a way to do what they want to DO......period........the cities should have found a better way to work together......but public transportation has ALWAYS taken a low priority in this KC Metro area and outlying cities...so once again MONEY is and WAS the problem.....the vsion just wasn't there and now it's REALLY expensive for bus alternatives.....so they better concentrate on what they CAN do ......with existing bus lines.........taking a bus from Independence to 10th & Main to turn around and ride back to Blue Springs is ridiculous.......and time consuming.......then you better make sure if you take a trip to KC,KS to take some afternoon college classes that you can leave class at 3:15 in the middle of class so you can get back to Independence by 6:00..........or you might get stranded........I've only ridden the Metro bus ONCE in my life.........but for those who NEED the service they are stigmatized by words like "migrate" in their hometown newspaper?....I do not believe the word was chosen randomly at all......but rather to convey a slant or an attitude.......ROFL..........consciously..........."people traveling around the city"............vs "people migrating around the city"...........c'mon toriano.........don't color us stupid............ ha ha ha.....................

you are funny!!! You take one word I use and dog me out for it.....From what I understand migrate means to move from one place to another, no matter if it's to another country, another city or another place, you know, like from home to the hospital, from the hospital to the grocery store and back home---one place to another....Trust and believe I don't have the greatest vocabulary, but I think I know how to put a few sentences together. But, I did get a hoot out of your vocab bashing......I'm still chuckling right now...

Back in my hay day I did a little consulting on city bus systems. I designed the garage in Omaha, critiqued the systm and garage in Springfield and here in KC. Here in KC there are too many suburbs with too much iput into the syste, rather than a central head who calls all the shots.. Take a look at Johnson County. They opted out of the ATA network way back and have run a much more sucessful system for years.
The KC folks have an almost impossible task, serving how many cities, how many cultures over a spread out area, depending on myriad city councils for partial funding, serving different people with different wants. It's kinda like working for upteen bosses and able to satisfy none. All of this is one reason light rail may never be a going concern in this area. Too many cooks, or in this case, too many transportatin directors, does indeed spoil the broth.
