The Economics of Good Government

It seems that more and more we are experiencing how our government attempts to control economic growth, public policy, and taxes through financial persuasion. The everyday lives of its citizens are bound to financial negative re-enforcers or positive incentives in an attempt to shape our lives and values.

Watchdog in the Dog House

So who cares, right? Just another example of what can happen when Jackson County gives its citizens the runaround.
The spin masters will have their way with your perceptions of what really happened that day or even the dynamics of the case as it went to court.
What Jackson County officials will have the hardest time explaining is, why they deemed it necessary for me to sign a "hold harmless agreement" for their actions regarding that incident. They were more afraid that I would sue them than any other issue.

County Breifs from the April 13, 2009 meeting

Bob Spence, County Legislator, gave an update on the Lake Lotawana gun club.
Mike Sharp, Sheriff, hosted the first annual Easter Egg Hunt at Parade Park, using
COMBAT funds.
Henry C. Rizzo, County Legislator, asked the Sheriff if his department could help the
Kansas City Police Department since they will be laying off 84 police officers.

Imagine the Best

One of the more fascinating things about blogging has been the discovery that others share not only our most common characteristics but also our deepest passions.
I am attaching a couple of links I discovered recently that demonstrate this principle. Those who have been joining me on these expeditions will be heartened by what has happened. Be sure to bookmark the links.

No News is Good News

I was reminded yesterday about my pledge to keep you informed about my battles with the county political machine.
I had been scheduled to appear in Judge Scoville's court this morning but events during the last 24 hours have revealed a very disorganized the county plan.

This County Isn't Big Enough; No Room For Ethics

Recently the Jackson County Ethics Commissioners walked away from their appointments because they were unhappy with the Legislature for making a few changes to the Ethics Code.
Do you think they did the right thing? What would you like to say to your Legislators regarding the changes. What would you like to happen as a result of the Legislature's tampering with the code? Do you think the State Ethics commission or the Attorney General is the correct place to address our grievences?
Below are the changes made by your Legislators to the new Ethics Code.

Jackson County Ethics Code

Please read the story by Michael Glover about the Jackson County Ethics Code.
I would first like everyone to know that since the code was completed by the Ethics Task Force in October of 2007, no public official has ever made a public comment regarding any specific provision of the code, except that some unnamed County Legislators did not want to be subject to its rules.

Precious Doe Killer Avoids Death Penalty

Jackson County is trying real hard to force the taxpayers to fund a regional jail. Prosecutor Kanatzar opted for a plea bargain in the Precious Doe case. Add that to the other serials killers like Terry Blair and Lorenzo Gilyard.

The female gang leader charges were also reduced to manslaughter rather than murder.

71 cars in six hours

http://www.examiner.net/news/x1157489177/Ten-arrested-at-checkpoint

Have you ever wondered about public safety? The statistics here are very scary.

I have heard that three traffic cops, checking for speeders, could write upwards of 50 tickets per hour. Very few are ever contested and the insurance companies make out big time with the increased rates they collect on premiums.

Usually at these sobriety check points there are fifteen or more officers. One hundred manhours and all that expensive equipment used for about eight hours on overtime.

Discovery

This past week was the first time since my arrest in April, that the prosecution has shared with me their story of the events. There are so many misperceptions, misleading statements, lies and twisted personal vendettas out there that it will be a small feat to prove there is a conspriacy of action.

I am tempted to say more. I believe their statments are not protected by any privilege. When the time is right you will see it all. I will move forward from where I began. Together we can achieve our goal of good government.

In-Action-on-public-defenders-office

http://www.examiner.net/news/x1323199860/Action-on-public-defenders-offi...

Does anyone seriously think this delay is really about saving money?
The purpose of the delay is to inconvenience the public defenders who are getting more skilled at defending against the poorly performing prosecutors office. The downtown office space is too precious for people who battle with the county.

Ethics Commission Stumbles

The Commission stumbled into a way to set aside a two-year-old Ethics complaint against eight Jackson Legislators. After declaring a letter that waived a dubious claim for Attorney Client Privilege, as hearsay; Sly James, himself an attorney convinced publicly paid attorney John E Turner that all he need do to get his clients who are elected officials, out from under the Subpoena DucesTecum was to state that “he believed” his client-Legislators had repaid James Wirken.

Hump Day

The big day will arrive on Wednesday.
Where: Associate Circuit Court, Division 32; Judge Robert L Trout at the Independence Courthouse.
When: Sometime after 1:30 PM.
What's going on?

The arraignment hearing of a Jackson County citizen (Bob WitbolsFeugen) regarding his arrest as a protestor of governmental business and as someone who had filed a complaint of the harassment against certain Legislators.

Behind the Closed Doors of School Negotiations

It has not been only the value of the buildings that have caused delay in settlement of the transfer of schools to the ISD.
Not so apparent to the public and negotiators until recently uncovered testimony from the maintenance staff worker who allegedly removed asbestos and lead paint from at least one of the buildings.
The extent of the problem is still under investigation but before the transfer it was a secret of the KCSD. Could this new revelation cause the ISD board to condemn the buildings?

Car 54, Where are You?

Columnist John Pennell asks the candidate for Sheriff to speak up. So, is their failure to come out publicly with regard to their experience and position on the issues, a reasonable silence? Will the real Herman Munster please stand up.

For those that don't know, Car 54 was a 1960's TV comedy series about two police officers who later played leading roles in the Munsters.
