Anyone else around Mt Washington Cemetery tired of hearing the Noise

Well in all my life I never thought Id be complaining about noise from a cemetery LOL It has been going all day and still going strong... Loud music and yelling over a loud speaker its a carnival. I was told it is the celebration of the dead????? I respect all cultures but when the don't respect my piece and quiet I get a little testy. Mt washington sure has got on my bad side.

I live behind the Dairy Queen and thought what the heck is all that noise ? Its not that late but its like 730pm. So i go outside and look across the street and see a party going on in the cemetery !! I thought what is this world coming to when there is a party in the cemetery ? I went to see what was going on and seen it was a celebration of the dead. I had no idea people celebrated this. My first thought was businesses will do anything for a dime. Wonder if they paid to have their celebration there ? If so how many more will there be ? Just a thought.

As per the the Catholic calender, November 1st is the feast of All Saints day, and November 2 is the feast of all Souls day (remembering the dead).

I live just a few doors down from Mt. Washington Cemetary.
But I was working and did not get home until around 7:45 PM on Halloween. I did not hear the sounds you are referring to, but my house has very thick (old) walls.
I can't help but wonder, since you are referring to a celebration of the dead, if you are referring to the Hispanic church that has taken up residence in what I understand used to be called the "Green Gables" bar ?
I know they had some rather noisy outdoor revivals there in Summer. And, although I don't recall seeing anything going on there on Halloween eve, I was quite tired and might have just driven by oblivious to whatever was going on.
Was there some celebration going on at that church that night? Is that what you are referring to?
Hispanics have a Day of the Dead Celebration on the 1st and 2nd of November. That's why you didn't hear anything on Halloween.
My understanding is that it's like a big carnval atmosphere. I would rather imagine they would have had to get permission from Mt. Washington to do something like that there.
Well, I wasn't suggesting they were partying IN Mt. Washington cemetary... but rather, they may have been having an outdoor celebration at the church... and somebody thought the noise was coming from Mt. Washington cemetary, because that church is just a stone's-throw away from it.
Gotcha, I usually don't get down that way a lot and I have no idea where their church is at :)

I didn't actually SEE or HEAR anything. I was just trying to get clarification on what the original poster had said. I know there's a Hispanic church right there on Truman and that they have been known to have outdoor events with bands, singing, etc. And I knew vaguely that there was some sort of Hispanic holiday or tradition that coincided with Halloween... the "day of the dead" (though I did not realize it was immediately AFTER Halloween).
Since the original poster had mentioned a "celebration of the dead", I thought perhaps that is what he or she was referring to.
Oh, I was just curious if that goes on every year or just something new! Don't they mainly celebrate that in Mexico? There is nothing wrong with clarification as long as it is not more confusing than the original post..... Oh wait, I'm good at doing that, lol.......
They celebrate it every year in Latin America. Apparently it's something that the Aztecs came up with.

Mt Washington Cemetery and these blogs.
I go there regularly, I never hear alot of noise. I never find any gangs or gang activity. It is my favorite cemetery and I plan to be entombed there one day. As for the gate, I was told some KIDS, not a gang, sprayed some paint around on the gate and the cemetery cleaned it off soon as possible. What do people in Independence call a gang? Sounds more like the community just needs to raise some children with a bit of old fashioned disipline rather than call out the bomb squad over some pranks. Uncalled for destructive pranks yes, but not gang activity per say. As for the new out of town owners, they have spent good money fixing the place up, something the locals should of been doing rather than complaining. I have seen donated tombstones by this company for people who had no stone. As far as getting cheated out of plots, when a cemetery gets tossed around that much, records get lost, try keeping yours as legal proof of ownership. That should work. Possibly the cemetery might have some events at the cemetery, I do not know, but live with some noise and enjoy community promotion. Its cool to have cemetery events, perfectly good idea for business as a whole. If you really want to blog and complain, try discussing Erotic City, as well as a number of Convience Stores along Truman RD. with filthy restrooms and fleas. I wait til I get to Lees Summit before I stop anywhere. In conclusion, these blogs are not helping that cemetery as you originally planned, they are only hurting it. I wish everyone would get a grip here and love this cemetery for what it is. Not for some gang activity that does not exist. Where are you children and grandchildren at night? Might surprise you. MLF66048, I looked over the blogs and I will admit I didn't know there was another blog about this cemetery. At the time that blog was posted I just got out of the hospital and wasn't even able to get near the computer. I will agree with you this is not all "gang" activity" but no one will listen to me so I gave up.... We do have a graffiti gang here in Independence and I believe that it could be them, but they are a gang of bored kids.....

WELCOME MLF66048! I think you are a little confused, b/c no one is saying it is a bad place and no one here has said there is gang activity there. We aren't saying that they cannot have religious events there either, all he said is the fact that they are so loud they are disturbing his peace and quiet. There is a law against that here in Independence and everyone including business of any kind have to obey by that. I don't feel Independence has an over-abundance of gangs here. I do agree with you on most of it being children's pranks and I do know where my children are ever day. I'm sorry you feel the way you do about our blog, but I do think you misunderstood the point of the blog... Until now, no one has posted anything good or bad about the cemetery and we are not hurting this cemetery in any way, shape or form!
I have family buried there and I don't have a problem with Mt. Washington Cemetery, I do find it to be a very beautiful cemetery now. In the past it was so run down and horrible that no one wanted to go there.
I am not confused, look for ELSIA's blog and you shall find numerous statements about gang activity. Yes, maybe you know where your kids are, but the point was its just kids. They do this in almost every cemetery in the country but we never call them gangsters. I admit most of my comments accidentally got into the wrong blog, but locate the one i mentioned and you will see what I was referring to. No, I am alot of things, but confused is not one of em. Just seen this blog post and thought it was in relation to the other blog...which proves my point further, 2 blogs about the same cemetery going on. Guess I'll have to start a 3rd one. I do think the noise this guy in here was speaking about is simular to the events at Forever Hollywood. Same owners of both cemeteries. The intentions are good. Possibly you guys could see if they have a permit from the city to have an event? If its just rowdy partiers and tresspassers, call the police. I would.
As far as if it is the cemetery holding an event, still think it could be good for the community during a time when the economy needs a bit of a boost.
MLF66048, I know what Elisa's blogs say and on most of them for months I have been disagreeing! I do believe that there are a lot of bored kids creating chiaos and a lot of property damage.... They don't just do it in cemeteries, they do it on buildings too, it has been going on for several years and it won't stop.... I didn't mean to offend you, it is my raw humor..... Well there is nothing wrong with it just confusing..... Help with what? Now I admit I am confused. :) Just started out defending a cemetery and its owners here. Didn't feel they ought to be condemned for being from out of town as some put it. Afterall, as best as I can tell, its metro KC people working there. Also thought using the term gang as som e did was a bit strong.....now we all get accused of condoning the activity for saying their bored kids. Obviously the kids ought to be caught and proper legal discipline is in order....but as kids, not gangsters. These people using this strong language is going to hurt that cemetery as well as Independence, mark my word on that. Hey man! Better stay away from Independence and Mt Washington, they have GANGS! Alot safer to stay out here in the burbs and the country away from that stuff! LOL I have known countless numbers of people in my life who think and would say just that. But if these gossips want to continue to get on here and kill their community instead of trying to do something constructive, then let em.
And by the way. At one time they were seeking some volunteers out at Mt Washington to help patrol the place and keep things in line. Possibly ELISHA and her friends ought to go out and get involved....or are they afraid these Peeps with their baggy pants are going to get them.

Just tone down the terms used until you can prove it really, really, is actual evil gang members and not just your cute kid next door that you probably love alot and do not even realize he or she could be the one your bad mouthing here.
Mlf66048 The proof is all around us with Graffiti and Crime. Some of my friends who had businesses are now gone. When you choose not to address crime you in fact are helping to cover it up. Crime grows out of control in the dark. I go by my real name and do not walk in fear. I have done my home work for the last three years. The crime reports and pictures are proof enough for me. I want more education on how to push away drugs and gangs from our families, children and businesses in Independence. You may feel this normal to have all this crime but this is not normal for me and I am not going to accept it!
Elisa, I love your passion for this, but not all the graffiti and crime is gang related. That is what everyone wants to believe and no one wants to accept.... I will no longer argue with you on this issue, b/c you are not thinking rationally about this... You want to blame everything on gangs and that isn't the issue, not around here in this area. If you feel so strongly about getting rid of our "crime" and our supposed "gang" problems, then why didn't you help push through our sales tax. They wanted to get more officers in here to help with the officers we had and people voted it down, b/c they were hearing we don't need more cops just more citizen input. I find that a load of crap and you know what it isn't worth my time or energy to argue or discuss this matter anymore. I, and several others, don't believe that all of our problems are "gang" related and we want more cops and yes I believe we have a gang around here, but not all the problems are "gang"related...... Crime goes one everywhere and you know what no one wants to accept that..... My dad talks about the crime problems here in the KC area dating back to the 1940's and earlier, if they haven't been able to push it away by now, neither will you guys.......... Just accept it and deal with it, it won't go away..........
