I hope the people that are showing up to tea parties and protesting health care reform aren't on social security or medicare. If they are they are hypocrites. I don't believe the government can run anything effectively or efficiently. I plan to work until the day I die. I hope to God I never have to take money from the hard work of someone else.
Let me see if I understand this. These people that are required to pay into social security and medicare their entire life, and you have the audassity to call them hypocrites if they now take money from a program they were forced to participate and voice their concern with a new program. That dog won't hunt lady. That's like calling a VET that was drafted into the military a hypocrite if he opposes any future military action the US chooses to engage in because he once was required to participate in service to his government. Here's an example of a hypocrite, a senator from Mass. that changes the law to require a public vote in 5 months to replace his fellow senator that might become vice president because he's fearful of who the republican govonor might pick under their current law, but now that he might die in office is ready to change the law back to the democrat govonor to replace him ASAP. Now that is just priceless for the 'rule of law' vs bananna republic discussion, don't you agree?
Thank U,
I served two and ½ tours in Nam, but I did volunteer.
I have received VA care for almost 40 years, it sucks by and large but I got it?
I appose our current military involvement 100%; if I had a young person I would send them to Canada, to live!
I also live on a Navy pension, I earned, I’m dieing of Agent Orange……
Am I a Hypocrite???
Men and women in our military deserve a lot more than they are getting. I don't begrudge our military anything. What I don't care for is paying into a ponzi system. Businesses are forced to match each employee dollar for dollar for social security and medicare. Then employees think their employer should provide health insurance and pensions(401(k)etc. Businesses are already providing health insurance and pensions with social security and medicare. A person who is single that lives to be say 61 years old and then passes away all that money just goes in the pot for someone else. Socialism. Why wasn't a big fuss going on when they tried to impliment these social programs. I'm also understanding that very soon they are going to raise the amount collected by individuals and employers for social security and medicare. I just wonder how many more businesses are going to leave this country or just shut down.
mminnoe, the way I remember the draft worked in the 60's was you either volunteered for the Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard or you got drafted in the Army or Marines either way you're in. That lady just hit a nerve with me and it appears to be growing with those that are pushing this public option that somehow you're a hypocrite if you don't agree. It's a demeaning agruement I'm not going to tollerate as a citizen and they need to be called out. I want to thank you for serving our country. I have nothing but pride and admiration especially for the volunteer foot soldiers, they've most earned the right to challenge any policy of government without being called names as a tactic to try to silence an opposing opinion.
If you read what I wrote you would know I'm not pushing for the public option. I of all people should be considering that because in 1991 by 24 year old brother was medically murdered. He had diabetes and no health insurance and the Blue Springs paramedics wouldn't take him to the hospital because he didn't have health insurance. Cost the taxpayers of Blue Springs money for that horrible mistake but that doesn't bring my brother back. What I think is hypocritical about people showing up for tea parties and against health care reform is most people draw more out of the system than they put in. I tell people all the time to DO THE MATH!!!
jsmith, you're really confused about employee/employer provided private health care and private pensions vs government mandated medicare and social security. It's the expansion of the government mandated safety net that includes the public option and the consequences of that are what's at play. Frankly, I don't think you know which plan you're for. In one blog argue about those who died too young and got nothing vs the next blog about who lived too long and got too much, so what, that doesn't make those that got too much (in your eyes) a hypocrite, especially when they're required by law to participate. And there is a value and need for that safety net in my estimation. Question is, how much? Is that your arguement, total elimination of the safety net? Because if it is your lawsuit against Blue Springs for medical neglect in the death of your brother would have no merit. No cash no insurance/no service vs the emergency services from a compassionate society. I apologize in advance for any assumptions regarding the circumstances of your brothers death, you have my sympathy on the loss of a loved one.
My brother should have been transported to the hospital and charged for his services. I don't think the self insured should be being charged 3 to 4 times what insurance, medicare, and medicaid pay though. Law suit was settled without even going to court. I don't believe in government handling anything. I believe people have compassion enough to help those that are truly in need. When I say truly in need I don't mean people who are slackers who are in need because they are just to lazy to work. By the way I'm married to a veteran of the Vietnam era. Our military, our childrens education (even if we no longer have children in school) and the transportation system (roads, bridges, etc ) I believe are all our taxes should be paying for.
Yea, I had bypass surgery 2 years ago. I got the bill and i have BC/BS and they itemize what the operation costs without insurance ($110,000) and BC/BS had a contract with the hospital to do it for around $40,000.(same with the Drs and surgeons) It doesn't seem like there should be that much disparity, but somebodys got to pay for those there who intend to pay when they get ahead. Nobody is refused emergency service so every body eats a little for the system to work. And BC/BS can use the volumn of business they do to negotiate price as well as give the hospitals and Dr assurances they'll be paid. I have a $5000 deductible but even if I could buy a $10,000 deductible it would have merit just to get BC/BS contract pricing and I would if the premium were attactive enough.
dshrout, not so mean. She's a grandma and everything. jsmith as a right to her opinion.
THANK YOU ! ! I do appreciate it !!!
I was at the VA one day and a Nice looking Lady on her first trip with a male friend, struck up a conversation with me, and then she said, "I think U are so Lucky, U can come to this Wonderful Hospital & its all FREE"
As I wheel away I said, "Lady I paid for every damn Dollar, and so did everyone else, in BLOOD"
Enjoy Ur Freedom, ............. Thank a VET! !
Yea, I think that's the kind of free I wouldn't want to have any part of and I sure as hell wouldn't call you lucky because you get to go there.
I don't understand what you are protesting.
Since there is no agreement on a plan, and there are several different bills floating around in the house and congress, and republican and democrat sides, Are you guys protesting the THOUGHT of socialized medicine or what?
We can't even get to a place to discuss the issue to come to a middle ground because of all the noise, over nothing material.
How can you all afford to keep taking off time from work to protest something that isn't even here?
Seems to me there IS a 1000+ page bill that is floating around. Granted, our Congress says there "two or three versions" that they've been working on.... but then there is that one bill that people have been "quoting chapter and verse" on the news for several weeks.
And I'm sure you are well aware of that.
There is one bill, the bill to actually reform healthcare, not with details how and etc. That's why we have checks and balances and 3 branches of government.
And I've actually read the bill, and most of the quotes are wrong.
Here's the bill itself:
www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h3200/text
Which is a wonderful bill to work with, and if they'd actually talk and discuss and offer something from the other side, instead of fear mongering, scaring the elderly who have had socialized medicine for years, and bsing about lies they repeat lather rinse and repeat, maybe we could actually get to the getting and get something done.
However as long as this shouting and rude displays of "American Pride" continue, nothing will get done.
But those opposed know that.
Rather than me having to depend on you(or some activist judge) try to explain what the nebulous language of this 1000 page largely social democrat bill 'really' says, I prefer a 4-5 pages in a language I understand that specifically addresses the abstract issues of contention. No offence, but uninvited intrusive government is kind of like uninvited intrusive relatives. Everybody needs to know when they've crossed the line.
Even ABC news this week admitted that a lot of people attending the Town Hall meetings who quote the bill "chapter and verse" are coming up with some excellent, valid questions.
The media and the dems are overplaying the shouting, as a way to defend themselves from having to commit answers to valid questions.
Maybe if there's no real bill to debate and all the protesters are so rude, all of our officials should just be like Dennis Moore and stay home.
I learned Roberts Rules of Order in about 4th grade....
I have run a lot of meetings in 50 years and I have never had one get out of control?
It's all on the guy runnin the meeting.... If he can't keep order its his bad......
Get more active, and agressive as U ask people to leave and then hold Ur meeting, even if there are only 4 people left??? If U do that U can hold a meeting....
Dennis Moore?.......(cluck ....cluck.....cluck.....)........(flap.....flap......flap....)...........
I am protesting the THOUGHT of socialized medicine (socialized anything, for that matter). I think most Americans now see that we must protest, at the very moment one of these silly ideas is first conceived, lest it be rammed through as a bill under cover of darkness. And you'll notice that this event takes place on Saturday, when many people are off work.
Complacency is the enemy. Be educated. Be aware. Be involved.

Color me surprised to see more ignorance (or at worst hypocracy) from the TeaParty, when it comes to understanding the word "socialism."
I guess after uttering this statement, the TeaParty is planning to return all Social Security payments, never accept Medicare or disability payments, attend only private schools, drive only on private toll roads, never fly in any plane (since air traffic control is a socialist endeavor), or for that matter, only eat food grown himself (since the FDA is a socialist service).

Sorry dude, but holding numerous town hall meetings all over the United States for the last several months is not hiding in the cover of darkness.
- "The media and the dems are overplaying the shouting, as a way to defend themselves from having to commit answers to valid questions." DRaasch
If you substitute the word "Republicans" for "Dems" in this statement, it would be virtually the same thing Republicans constantly said about war protestors during the Bush presidency. Ironic, isn't it?
An observation about Social Security. I was talking to a school teacher buddy I went to college with, now retired, and asked him how their retirement worked. Did I mention he's now retired. He said they pay in 12% of their income and if they stay 30 years they draw 80% of their last 3 years income the rest of their life. I've been paying into SS since I was 15 yrs old, I've been self-employed since I was 23 self employment tax(FICA) is 15.3% and I'm not eligible for SS till I'm 67 yrs old so I'll paid in for 44 years and provided they don't increase retirement age and/or decrease my benefits(both of which are entirely possible with government) my last statement of benefits sent on one's birthday they'll pay me about 17% of my current income I'm too far into this "good deal" of social security Pensive braggs about to get out. But a choice of money managers of one who can go 30 years @12% of my money and pay me 80% of my last 3 yr average income for life vs 44 years@15.3% of my money and pay me 17% of what I'm making today would be a no brainer!! And the older I get the more I'm convinced that there is a large % and growing of the population that is more than willing to negotiate their personal freedoms for social security, whether it be health care, food or housing(and preferably all three). I understand there are those through no fault of their own need help I willingly accept that but that's not what's happening here. There still is a 50%/50% divide on the issue and just because the Dems control the Executive and legislative branches of government don't believe your own bull$hit there's 100% of the public support for this. The dems are now frustrated that the 12th man is beginning to show up for the game and you've got a chamillion for a president looking for his red and blue plaid jacket.
One variable not in your equation is that Social Security is also used to pay benefits to the disabled, who don't necessarily have the same opportunities to earn a living and contribute to Social Security or a 401k throughout their entire lifetime, as you do.
Anyway, it's a straw man arguement. It's no different than funding public schools. I don't have any children, but I still pay property taxes to the school district. Am I getting the same return on my investment as everyone else? No. However, I can vote for school board members and provide input into the system just the same as everyone else. But it would be ridiculous for me assume that just because I don't have children, that I should expect the school board to cater all of its decisions toward my situation. The school board's existence is to cater to the greater needs of the whole, not to the childless people of the world.
Social Security is the same situation. It isn't designed to cater to people who have the means to survive without it, so yeah, it's not the best deal for a guy like Shrout, but he's entitled to his opinion. However, the federal government shouldn't cater all the decisions it makes regarding Social Security on people who have the means to survive without it.
IT'S NO DIFFERENT FOR HEATH CARE.
I'd also like to address this notion that exists out there that people on welfare are living the American dream, laughing away at the dopes who work for a living and support them. It's a ridiculous image. If you truly believe it is so wonderful to live on welfare, then why aren't you quitting your job now and signing up?
thank you dshrout.......(Paul Harvey voice).........."and NOW you know...........the REST .......of the story"..............(clap.....clap......clap....)
You sure know how to put things in the correct perspective.
......hey LMF.....your "brain" just showed up to think for you...now all YOU have to do is "chime in" with "attaboys"..........ROFL........ ha ha ha ha ha........
Dog, I wonder if maybe you might have been bitten by a rabid squirrel sometime in your life and it gave you a case of meaness or madness.

Our current health care system is broken and needs to be fixed very soon. Canada and Germany have a system which works well for the people. It seems so unkind for you not to want good medical care for eveyone. Teaparty you appear like you don't feel the pain of America. Is medicare, medicaid, VA benefits, vaccinations, the CDC socialized medicine? The government is the people.
Perhaps this article will elighten you on the rush for socialized medicine....
