Keep your eyes out

Since 2003 our I.P.D has recieved 14 million or so in grants, and yet here we are in AUGUST going again to vote yes or no for a sale tax increase for 42 or so more police.
My question is why? Where is all that money, now I know they don't have ALL that money now , but they still recieve grants from different directions.
I also keep asking myself why doesn't this city ask for the promise to pay loans back. What there is something around 12 million from Centerpoint, and  5 million or some from people that own property on Noland , and there are others.
What about the TIF'S that are out there? Not sure how that works but doesn't that have to be paid back also?
The I.P.D has NEVER been my favorite and I theirs, but even if they were I would still VOTE NO!
EVERYTIME we turn around this city is asking for a sale increase.
If you have also noticed the paper is making sure that the CRIME  or  the POLICE is in there for something or another.
Look when I see a cop there are some things that I notice, like them meeting to kiss one another, sitting in a parking lot trying to look like their busy or out getting something to eat.
Not one of them have done something to service or protect me , or my family or for that fact many others that I have talked with or too.
Before you go out and vote make sure you really know what the truth is  on the August ballots.
They can tell us whatever they want us to hear , but it is to us to make the right choice and seeing as this is the humpteen increase they have asked for get to know your facts.
Mine is that  I will be VOTING NO NO NO and so will many others. I am sure they can find the money else where.
We need our money to pay our bills, to support our family, to have a place to live.
This is just one persons opinon.

Most of the grants referred to are for specific use and expire after a set period of time, usually 3 years. They have been used to add officers, but they are non-sustainable. This vote is necessary, but its terms do need to be changed. There should be a time limit. The one for the Street Tax recently passed is for 10 years. Do the Police deserve less than the streets? The amount of tax should be on a sliding scale, or the department needs to explain why it needs a constant influx of $6M per year.

Civil, I know that these grants that the police get are to be used for what their soul purpose is for. I also know that it is you and I that are paying back these TIF'S or the promise to pay loans back to the city. When , like centerpoint is giving this TIF and in that they don't have to start paying back their portion of the promise to pay loans , tif's or loans then we the citizens are paying it back up to the time that their contract says they have to.
It's crazy that we get stuck paying back something that in some peoples eyes shouldn't have went through in the first place.
Do we need more police , I say yes, but I AM NOT willing to pay out 3/8 cent tax or 20 dollars a year so that we can do that. I am sure that the council can come up with something other then asking for a nother sale increase.
Did you all know that our new chief of police had two years to finish out his term so he can get his full benefits then he is going to retire and we will have to spend some where in the ball park figure of  1 to 5 thousand dollars to go through the process of finding another one.
Really is that necessary?
We did this when Fred Mills left office and will have to go through it again when the new chief of police will be gone in two years.

Voting against this tax is not a vote against law enforcement for me because I do support law enforcement. We simply can't afford this tax. This will hurt to many people that have it much to hard as it is.

Ever done a ride-a-long? (Riding to jail after being arrested doesn't count)

I haven't and wouldn't. I don't trust the IPD now or ever!
I'm not saying their job is easy, but believe me those that just "act like their doing something" should be getting their butts shoved out the door and put someone who will do the job that their hired to do.

Then I guess your opinion isn't qualified.
And I guess firefighters are really idiots in your book because they sometimes sleep on duty, when they should be out looking for fires.

my issue isn't the firefighters, I haven't been to happy with them, but hey their human and can make mistakes even though they have been to my house on many MANY different times to come and help my husband, we all know their the first to arrive on a scene. They last time they were here it took them over an hour to arrive when I have lived in the same house for over 15 years and have called upon them countless times with out this sort of thing happening. Now all of a sudden they can't find my house or street address. Not the point here.  When I was ALOT younger I took jr firefighting classes because I had wanted to become one of them. I wouldn't now , but that isn't the point.
My point is that well that this city just needs to find somewhere else to fine the money they want to get the police that is needed here.
My vote and by some of the other blogs A WHOLE LOT OF OTHERS are going to VOTE NO as well.
Triumph, if I have offended you , because your a firefighter then I am sorry that wasn't my intent.

I think you missed my point.  I was trying to point out the logic you are using is stupid.  Actually it's no different than any other prejudice.  Sorry I thought I might be able to have an intelligent discussion.

No , I don't think that the firefighters should just go out and look for fires, That would be a waste of their time and energy.
How ever the police are always patroling areas just driving around and it isn't in the western part of the city. They are mainly around the 39th street area.
Their hired to protect and service all equally.
Now when a 29 year old man approaches a 15 year old minor and them do NOTHING ABOUT it is just plain wrong in my mind. I do believe he broke the law knowning that his approaching a minor and asking for her number is just plain stuid and wrong. When I approached him and asked this person if he had a problem with my daughter , and why he had asked for her number he was on the offense right away. To me that is almost like trying to solicte her for sex so he can met up with her and lord knows what could have happened.
One can only guess what this person was up to.
We do have 911 after all for a reason.
If this man wasn't trying to do something wrong he wouldn't have started chasing my van with me and my child in it. She was fearful of her life and her action showed it to me when I picked her up.
He also wouldn't have kept going up to her and trying to make small talk and in the end asking for her number , in which her reply was I'm only 15 and his response was I'm just 29. He's a sick man and he will get what is coming to him . He will do this to another child  and their parent won't response as I did. Again I know they failed my daughter and their system is so screwed up that if this is accepted by the police ithen it will happen again and this time just maybe the parent or cops won't get there in time to save the child.
Now back to the firefighters. They do their jobs , and it isn't for them to go out too patrol the areas to look for fires. It is HOWEVER the police job to partol areas and not just sit in their cars waiting to met up with another officer so they can be kissing , or just sitting in a parking lot acting like they have nothing better to do.
I guess you have to be a parent in order to understand how upset one would get if this was to happen to someone else child. His actions showed he was leading up to something more horriable then just asking a minor for a number.
I say terrorizing a minor child is a criminal act in itself, but some on the other hand may not.
As far as having a intelligent conversation that seems to be  stupid part on your thinking as you seem to think it is alright for a man of his age to approach minor children  and asking them for their numbers.
I guess to make sure my children are safe they will start carrying knifes  to protect themselves in case something like this was to ever happen again.
My child should be able to stand outside of any building and not except a total stranger to up come up to them and start asking for numbers and lord knows what else. What if this was your child? I get it that you may not act in this manner or may not even care if it happens to them. That is shameful. It IS MY JOB TO KEEP THEM SAFE AND IF THEY CAN'T BE SAFE AT A PUBLIC LIBRARY THEN WHERE CAN THEY BE SAFE AT?
I just want them to do what their hired to do. To protect the innocent and make sure that things like this doesn't happen to someone else kid, because next time it may not turn out so good.
