A friend of mine was telling me about something that happen to her around Oct. I wonder what you all would do if this was to happen to you.
A neighbor of hers died in Oct. She and her husband were at home this Saturday morning when they saw the IPD go to her neighbors home. Her husband was outside and she inside. The husband left shortly after they arrived next door and came back a short time later. In the meantime , my friend was upstairs in her home when she heard the front door rattle. Some one was trying to get into her home. She was in her p.js , and wasn't about to open the door. She looked out a window from upstairs to see who it may be. She wasn't expecting anyone. While she was looking outside of her window she heard it again. This time from the back doors. Whomever it was , was trying to get into the home from the back. There was no knocking to see if someone would answer the door. They saw her husband leave . So , who do you ask was trying to get into her home.It was the IPD. For what reason? There was no crime there, they were next door. They saw the male man leave the home,BUT yet they one of these fine detectives try to get into their home. No probable cause, no search warrent , nothing. They hadn't called the police . This male detective took it upon himself to try and get into this home. For what reason? I would like to know also. When her husband came home, she told him what had happen. He walked out his back door and saw this detective standing in his back yard. He asked him if he had try to get into his home and the detective admitted that he had. My friend then called the police station and wanted to speak with the new head of police. She instead was directed to his asst. She asked for him to call her back. That hasn't happen yet. She try to call the det and left him a voice message. He has yet to return her call. She has called member of the council and that didn't get her anywhere either . No help from the Mayors office either from what she has said. I guess some things will NEVER change. They will do what they want and when they want . Here , I thought we were going to better our department. Guess not! I can tell you that I am not surprised. I sure am glad that I have some 4 legged family members that would teach them some manners real fast!
Here's a thought . What would you do?

Personally....
I would be sitting at the IPD demanding to speak with the Chief and asking him what in the heck they are thinking, why are they just trying to get in without identification of themselves before trying to enter and who died and made them god all of a sudden? I then would add and follow with a complaint to not only the Chief, but I.A. and let them know what had happened.
As for the Mayor, he doesn't know his own job let alone the jobs and rules of IPD so he needs to twist it somewhere else. I've heard from people that work for the city that he just doesn't care about anything or anyone but himself, apparently that is true otherwise he would be checking into this.
No one has the right to just enter a home without ID themselves and if they are stupid enough to do so then they are going to get shot. It states in the laws that if an officer does not identify themselves and there are witnesses to this fact what ever happens to them is on them for basically being stupid. The thing is not many people will have a witness when they seriously need it. I did though, here years ago I was in Unincorp. Jackson County when JCSD in plain clothes whom did not ID himself ended up getting hit by me. I had 20 witnesses to the fact that he did not ID himself, I did apologize and I felt horrible but you don't just walk up and grab someone and say nothing either. That is when I found out about the law.

I wish I could have been a fly on the wall to see that one. To see someone putting the IPD in their place. That is where she is at. I am sure that others on the department won't tell if they saw it. They always stick up for their own kind most of the time. As it is , it is the husbands word again the det word. I agree with you 100%. It is times like this when I get ahold of something like this happening that I have animals that will protect my family, and their property. I told her that they had no cause to try to enter her home. First there was no just cause for it , and second they didn't have a search warrent. That is why I love having my no trespassing sign on my front door and on my property. I will do whatever to protect it and my family. I had hopes that things with the IPD would change, but that hope has been shot right out the window with all the crap I hear about them. We need someone who isn't afraid of doing the RIGHT thing. I guess we haven't found that person yet.

As Mminnoe said, there's a few details missing here. You say this was a detective. You indicate your neighbor got the detectives name. Did she/he get his badge number? Did they even see a badge? If not, are they sure he was indeed a policeman? Did a plainscloth come up in a squad car? Which councilman brushed your neighbor off? Fill in the blanks and maybe somebody can help.

Just giving what was told. What I can recall from memory.
I don't know the detective name, but she does and yes it was a plainclothes detective. Her husband talked with him, and she called the IPD to ask this detective why he did that. She , recalling from memory here , I think she talked to J,Page.
She talked with the Mayor himself, I believe is what she told me. Like I said, I have been dealing with sick children(4) of them. Life is/ has been busier then usual . No excuses there just mind on other matters.
One other thing..... What do you all think about this increase of the IPL? The council has had one reading already. It will be a 9% increase, then two or three , 5% increase after that. With about 10.8% going into the general fund for the city of Independence. Some of it will be used for pay raises.
Another word that I have heard, and no I won't give names on this one is .... That a IPD has been quoted as saying that ....Independence is/ has became a third world nation. I wasn't giving a name, and no I didn't ask.
Just thought I would pass this information on. I, myself am wondering who said that.

Heacock went to the council. He wants a bond to maintain the inferstructer of the IPL.
It is first an increase of 9% starting in Jan, then we are to have another increase of 5%, then the following year or so we are to have another increase of 5% twice.
This increase will also give about at a guess of 10.8% of which will go to the city general fund, and toward pay raises.They are voting on this tonight, I for one will be there to see what happens. I am sure that it will pass. This was in the examiner , above link, just been to busy to write about it on here. Pay attention , this effects us all.

I was just told about this a few days ago. I wish I had known about this earlier in the week, so I could have signed up to speak about it. I 'm sure that it wouldn't have mattered much. There just isn't enough time in the day for me to get around to reading the paper,going to school,working, and doing homework. Taking care of sick girls and husband , training a german shepard and everything else that takes up my day and time. I would have been causing a big fuse along with you Gayle if I had known about it. Anyway it really wouldn't have mattered. If this city feels like we need to upgrade our IPL then it is with in their rights to do so. If you all recall Kansas City Power and Light did the same thing. It sure doesn't make sense with the way things are right now. This will bring on more crime. It is hard for anyone to pay a bill even if the average payment is $175.? By the time this is done we all will have about 30 more dollars onto our bills. Great chrismas present for our city to the citizens. I know that it needs to be done, but surely there are other ways of getting this done with out the tax being sent to the citizens of Independence. Here is a suggestion.... HOW ABOUT NO STUPID HOCKEY ARENA!!!! This city has never been , nor will it ever be a hockey city. Sorry for those of you who like it. I see no reson why this was giving the go ahead. It will be a big flop like most of the other companys that try to come out here. Mushroom effect kinda like the sound of that MMinnoe ....
I do like to think that this city does in most part what is for the common good of the people, I JUST WISH THEY STOP HIDDING IT FROM US. Oh well, there is always the chance of them not getting re-elected,but that is up to the citizens.

I found out...
When NBCACTIONNEWS 41 showed up at my door to talk with me and I did an on camera interview about it. Right along with Heacock, they are saying it is going to be used for improvements only for our poles and for the plant, but I don't see that happening. Not only that if they would put our lines underground we would have less power outages in the winter cause from ice and snow. They are burying powerlines, but they are burying them where it will look good for the mayor and city manager. I'm sorry, but I could care less if it would look better for them two they need to stop thinking about what they want and how much nonsense money they can spend and start thinking about the people. Oh, that's right the two of them want the citizens money so they can keep going on their b.s. trips to Hawaii and they are so enjoying how they are screwing the rest of the city.
If they want this cities support on raising our taxes so high then do something constructive like bury our powerlines for the winter time so people aren't without power when we get hit with another ice storm we aren't without power for weeks on end. Oh, here is another idea quit giving them raises if they aren't making enough at least $30k a year then yes give them a raise otherwise no. They need to realize Missouri is in a recession and the hardest hit for the recession, just like the rest of the U.S. so now is not the time to go and raise taxes for raises. It is going to matter much on the taxes if everyone is living on the streets because the Mayor and the City Manager are retards and want to raise taxes, here is an idea cut your pay and let's see how much the city can save!

I would like to see your interview with Action News. Can you give me a date that you did this. I think we need to keep this in the spotlight. Now if our Power plant needs to be fixed , I can understand that . I know that it is around 50 years old and that they have done patch jobs on this building, but .... WHY try to hide things from the people?
