You know it sickens me to think this man was awarded more then 7 million dollars.
Now that is to say he doesn't deserve to be awareded something, but that is a little to much! The reason for the feeding tubes he required while at the hospital was because of the HOSPITAL, and NOT THE ATTACK from the pit bull dogs. The other reason why Alan Hill was attack was because of a certain person walking around dressed a certain way with meat under a dress that was stolen from the local food market. That person was also attacked while Alan Hill was attacked. Wonder why the other person wasn't mulled as bad as Hill was. Lets get back to the feeding tube that was given to A.Hill from the hospital. The hospital gave him a feeding tube and in doing so A.Hill acquired an infection. This making his stay longer at the hospital. He didn't get an infection from the attack from these dogs. That is a given fact. I'm sure we will see him gloating around town now with his newly given money and acting like god himself. Lord help us all.
Now for as Kathy C. his sister, well the old saying "what comes around goes around"; comes to mind and seems very fit in this. Whiling trying to blame all pit bulls and all pit bull owners on the attack because of two dogs ,when she should have been paying attention to her business and making sure that it was going to stay open, because of the smoking ban being put into effect her business is now closed! Strange isn't it how things work out???? I'm sure her brother will be more then glad to share that 7million dollars with her. I just wonder how long it will take before the rest of the carma they have coming to them comes around and does some more biting?

If I had 7 million dollars I'd invest them! But firstly, Alaska Cruises here I come! :) I always loved traveling, but I`m not just about spending money, I'll put them work for me, and make more money!

Sheesh - not even in the ballpark, lady.
Point 1:
The judge awarded him over $7 million. That doesn't mean he'll collect. The odds are there will be an appeal, which will prolong the whole mess OR since the dirtbags who are responsible are typical Independence white trash, they're broke and he won't see a penny. You see, the award is a civil suit and the individuals responsible must pay. If they have insurance, the insurance company will pay up to the limit of the policy, usually $100k to $500k. From there, Mr. Hill and his family will have to have the assets of the individuals liquidated, as well as garnishing wages, etc.
Translation, he'll probably not get squat, other than a warm feeling, much like peeing himself.
Point 2:
What the HELL does somebody walking around with stolen meat have to do with it? The animals tore the hell out of him.
Point 3:
It's all the fault of the SMOKING BAN? Wow. It appears you don't hold with the smoking ban, because whatever you're smokin' to come up with that can't be a legal substance.
I won't even waste my time discussing the extent of his injuries, etc. Let me put it this way: If you had three pit bulls chew the hell out of you, putting you in the hospital for months, totally destroying your ability to support yourself or even have a life, I bet you'd be wanting more than an "I'm sorry, I'll take better care of the dogs next time."

Are you that dumb? Obviously you need a reality check here. Follow this logic...He wouldn't have been in the hospital..on a feeding tube..which irritated his esophagus..which caused an infection..if he wasn't attacked by the pit bulls..THAT'S A GIVEN FACT.
Also, I'm sure the jury didn't take his sister's lack of keeping her business open into consideration, otherwise, she would be a co-petitioner in the case.
And, how he decides to spend his award is regardless as to the fact that he was mauled by three pit bulls.
And, finally, I don't think any money in the world is worth gloating about the fact that he is disabled, and disfigured. Actually, I can't think of anyone that would prefer being disfigured and disabled, not to mention the pain and suffering and financial hardship he endured.

Is it Hill's fault that the person was walking around with meat under a dress, and didn't get attacked as badly as Hill? Well, by God, revoke his award! What a travesty!

Re: Pit Bull Attacks
Although this man was awarded 7 million dollars, doesn't mean he will collect 7 million dollars. As with most cases, compensation is awarded to a party who suffers damages, however the negligent party named on the suit most likely cannot afford and does not have that kind of money, whether it be cash, assets owned, or both combined.
If the hospital was a negligent party involved during the stay, I would assume that would fall under a seperate suit against the hospital for malpractice. If this was a situation where Mr. Hill suffered from an infection due to his hospitalization and the severity of his wounds, and we all know infections are quite common when suffering injuries of this severity regardless of which hospital we receive medical treatment from, then I am sure the hospital would have filed some sort of a subrogation claim against Mr. Hill and all other parties involved had the hospital been in any sense of danger involving a lawsuit.
Raw meat under a dress or not does not constitute a violation of the City of Independence's restraint order keeping dogs locked up or on a leash and not running loose, so you have to look at why the dogs were running free to begin with. I know that from monitoring the police scanner both the day prior to this incident, and on the same day of the attacks there was a problem. Prior to the day of the attacks, Kansas City attempted to serve a warrant on the occupant of the residence. It was known at that time that there were three dogs acting very aggressively but it is unknown whether animal control had any jurisdiction to remove the animals at that time. The evening prior to the attack, the owner of the structure called animal control to remove the dogs due to an eviction of the current resident, but they did not respond in a timely fashion. What happened the next day is unknown, but as records indicate, the dogs escaped through a broken window. I'm not quite sure who broke the window, if it was the dogs, the landlord, or a party acting on behalf of the homeowner. I believe looking at the big picture here would tell you that whoever abandoned the dogs and left them at the residence should be the party ALSO held responsible.
Lingering questions:
When KCPD attempted to serve their warrant, was animal control notified about the animals?
If animal control was notified, was there anything that allowed them to make entry into the residence to remove the animals?
What happened to the current occupant? Was he ever charged with any crime or violation of any ordinance?
What was the timeline in which animal control was notified the previous night of the attack vs. the time the homeowner left?

Don't waste your time or energy
Don't even waste your time or energy with explaining court procedure or city procedure with Patti Harris. The City Staff and numerous Councilmembers have tried to explain to her all the legal procedures. I don't know if she is just plan dumb or doesn't want to hear it. Looking back now that I am off council if I had to do it over again since this subject will never be over because of people like her I guess in the ban I would have done like Wyandotte County and had the pit bulls in Independence removed instead of allowed to live their lives out then we would not have listened to people like her who put dogs before peoples lives.

Let me make something clear....
First of all Renee were ALL glad your a$$ is off the council and so are the council members that serviced with you. Second I NEVER talked with you about anything.Your type is one that I would NEVER have anything to do with. You were just a puppet for who ever was pulling your strings at the time, lord knows you had many.
I wouldn't waste my breath speaking to you.We all know you were doing the work for Alan Hill and his sister, your buddys. Renee since you like it out there in Wyandotte why don't you do us all a favor and move there. You were a disgrace to the council.
Now lets get back to making something clear.
Alan Hill may not have been attack , if this person dressed up as a women had meat under a dress walking through Alan Hills property. Second,Alan Hill was mowing the lawn , so that didn't help. I don't know many dogs that like the sound of a lawn mower. I know that none of mine do,or did.
I do know that animal control was called a few times, but there was nothing they could do at the time for whatever reason even though they were told these animal were mean and aggressive toward others.. Animal control and the police went to where these dogs were together from what I was told more then once..
911 was called twice that is on record.
Now there could have been more times, and I 'm sure there is ,but no one has taken a look to see if the non emergency number was called to that house.

Alan Hill does deserve his money that he was awarded. I wasn't disputing that. I think that Paul Piper, the one that is being accused of letting out the dogs should have to pay for his mistake,if he did in deed let them out. That also goes for any other person or persons who had anything to do with this.
The owner of the dogs was in jail at the time of the dogs release , and if I am not mistaken had just moved here from Kansas City to hide from the police in K.C.MO. When we were out getting names I talked to that mans uncle , who told me that in fact he had raised them dogs to protect his home , and the drugs he had kept in his home. He made the dogs aggressive toward others in general.
When it comes to the meat being stolen from the local food market it has plenty to do with Alan Hill being attack.
If you were lets just say a man dressed up as a pregent women with raw meat under a dress and hungry dogs who had nothing to eat or drink for days.but eatting their own poo was released or had gotten out of a home smelt that meat you beat your bottom dollar that the dogs would go for it, and them dogs would know that something isn't right with that man dressed up as a women. The EMT picked up the torn dress pieces from what I have been told.

Alan Hill wouldn't miss the 7 million or more that the court awarded to him. From everyone that I have talked to about Alan Hill he has plenty of money and well... I won't even bother with what else they have said about him. Lets just put it this way. Nothing that I have heard from other people was nice. They have all said in the end that he deserved what he got.
I am not blaming his sister for her business closing , that is due to the smoking ban .Which if I am not mistaken Renee didn't vote for because her pal Kathy business would suffer and Renee is a smoker herself and a drinker.Renee was one who voted for Kathy to have the smoking patio outside her business. She made that point clear at a funeral she went to. I was also at this funeral and she had no problem pointing out that she was off to go smoke and get something to drink while walking out the doors of the funeral home . She just like Renee say that all PIT BULLS are evil dogs. That their all out to do one thing and that is to due harm ,or kill . NOT TRUE!! It is all in how a pit bull, or any dog ,is raised. Should we ban all dogs? All breeds have bitten at one time or another and yes I know what you are going to come back with.... Not all dogs do the damage a pit can. That is bull sh$t right there. Maybe we should ban anything that can bite a person.
Their are plenty of dogs out there that can do that kind of damage.
Now let me get to the owner of the dogs.
I have said from the very begining of this problem that he should never be able to own another animal in his live. He did wrong by them. Them dogs did what they were taught to do. That is to be aggressive,to do harm and to kill.
I just wonder why it is that when women came chasing these dogs why they just ran off and not once try to attack them. Does anyone ever wonder about that? More than once women ran these dogs off from where they were and one women even petted them after an attack and saw the blood on them. I never said I didn't think the persons who let this happen shouldn't pay for the damages done to Alan Hill,or to any of the other ones that were attacked.
Joker where in the world does it state that a person having a pit bull is "white trash?" Just because someone has a pit doesn't make them trash. It doesn't mean that person is doing drugs, or fighting their dog, or even teaching them to be agressive towards other animals, or people. Your just another one of them types who think their better than someone else. Your not better than a person who has a pit bull , or a chow , or any other breed, just because you don't like that breed. I know alot of people who have pits,or foster pit bulls. Some are Independence residents and others are from our neighboring city.You should become pals with Renee she and you would get along just fine.

Your right about one thing. I would rather be around dogs, or animals then with people. I have a passion for them all. My husband calls me the bird lady because next to dogs their almost at the top of my favorite animal.
One day it will be time to move out of the city and to the country to surround myself with nothing but family and animals. To where the country life is made for such people as myself who loves to be surrounded with animals.
