I don't know if you guys read the article on the firework ban or not. I do know everyone does know about it though and I want to know what the rest of you feel about it.
Personal standpoint of the ordinance it is a waste of time and energy to allow the fire chief to say yes or no on our fireworks. I think the ordinance needs to be left up to the citizens and not one single person on our laws, I would be more than happy to research the other city ordinances on fireworks to help them set up something that would please everyone including the so called fire chief. Apparently as a child she didn't like fireworks or her parents decided she was too little to handle them, so now she wants everyone else to suffer because she didn't get too.
Most of us on here have kids and know the joys of watching our kids's face on the 4th of july and new year's when they get to celebrate with fireworks. I personally love fireworks and I don't allow my children to set off anything other than snappers, sparklers, etc. All the heavy stuff me or my hubby sets off and we don't set off anything in the air for the fact that we live in a residential area, hello not that stupid. On the other hand my hubby and I are looking for a house outside of the city limits so we can celebrate the 4th and new year's without feeling like we are breaking the law.
As I repeat What do you guys think? Before I personally decide to contact the mayor on the issue I want to know what all of you want, so please let me know. Meanwhile, I will do the research and hopefully let the Mayor know everyone's feelings since they can't seem to find out on their own.

Happy 4th of July!!!
Let the kids have their fireworks one day a year for Christ's sake.
Drive around on the 4th and you'll see two-thirds of the city is blowing off fireworks on the 4th of July, despite the law. The police can't hassle two-thirds of the city just to satisfy the cranky one-third, so they only use the law to bust the morons out there doing something obviously stupid and irresponsible with a firework. But the majority of people I've seen are being responsible.
I've also seen the police driving around town at midnight telling people to shut it down so those who have to work the next day can sleep.
So people should just leave it alone and go find something else to complain about, like telling kids to get off of their lawn.
On a side note, I hope you're not planning on presenting the comments posted throughout this blog as a representative sample of the citizens of Independence as a whole... That would appear to be more a sample of Mminnoe's opinions, since I've noticed he seems to posts about ten times for every one post from anyone else. I'm a believer in free speech, so I'm not knocking his prolific nature. All I'm saying is that it doesn't lead to a very accurate sample of public opinion.
craziness....
Yeah I moved from Independence out to Blue Springs here back in mid June and when the Fourth came around I started seeing all of these neighborhood kids shooting off all kinds of stuff right here in town and on my road! I was like "wait a sec where the heck are the cops and/or why isn't anyone calling the cops?!" Then I go to the blue springs city website to find that there are NO ordinances against shooting fireworks right here in town. I just think its funny how Indep. doesnt allow it but Blue Springs does? I still like shooting off fireworks and watching others do it but even I think they shouldn't be shot off right here in town, it's like the city is asking for trouble. All I know is that if my yard or property ever gets damaged or catches on fire because of some younger kids stupidity, I will not be calling the cops.

Are U going to break the Law???
Are U going to break the Law???
And assault the little buggers???
Are U going to go to there Dad who bought the Fireworks and tell him he owes U a new roof??
Are U going to assault him??
See the kind of problems this can lead too??
Oh I forgot we don’t punch each other any more we shoot them??? Right???
Fireworks in the hands of fools are a HUGE problem…Indep finically has laws against them, as LS now lets push for enforcement…
local law enforcement sucks!
Who said anything about assulting the little buggers or their dads? But yes someone would be paying for a new roof or a new yard if they catch on fire. You need to watch V For Vendetta, great movie with some great quotes.. One that comes to mind now is "Violence, can be used for good too..." haha anyways but yeah no assulting or shooting, just demanding that the people responsible for their foolishness pay for their actions and I can almost guarantee that the police won't be helping out in bringing the people and their kids to justice. Sometimes, in certain situations you really do need to take the law into your own hands to get things done.

Stay with that concept
And I will bring U a cake with a file in it….
There is NO good argument for fireworks……
The few bucks the Boy Scouts and the Eagles and VFW make don’t even start to off set the cost to the town….I was the state secretary for the Church of God here in MO for 4 years and I’ve had this fight all over the state there is no good reason for groups to sell fireworks…
The profit NEVER offsets the cost in $, or in little burned fingers, & hands trust me I have seen them….
I have had to argue this with church people ….
heres an idea...
How about everyone that buys any fireworks other than sparklers or snappers has to register for them! Haha! You know, like how you have to do when you go and buy a pistol/handgun? You should have to go to the sheriffs office with your WHOLE artillery of fireworks and register it all and take photos of everything you have bought so in case someone gets hurt or property gets damaged they can trace it back to its original pyro-maniacs that bought the items! Sound good? Our government is keeping track of what guns and ammo ordinary people buy and are stocked up on through places like Wal-Mart so they might as well be keeping track of all fireworks too!

No I still think
No I still think
They should have to do a turn at the emergence ward or the burn unit…
One of my best friends growing up was a kicker…
and he had a walk on contract with the Chief’s.
he was in the back yard over on Pleasant on the fourth, and setting off fireworks for his family and kids, was to report to Chiefs camp next morning….
He blew his right foot off ….
Need less to say….
Sorry Darlin, but I’ve been raggin against Fireworks here for 10
Sorry Darlin, but I’ve been raggin against Fireworks here for 10 years….
Pyrotechnic devices in the hands of children is a path to disaster.
Last 4th of July 10,000 children under the age of 16 were admitted to emergency rooms over 4 days around the 4th…
All accidents…Accidents that there parents bought for them…
I grew up using dynamite to blow post holes on a farm at Eldon, my first billet in the navy was UDT, underwater demolition team, I’ve been shooting guns since I was 5 and I will tell U, fireworks are the most dangerous things on the planet for children…
They are made in China with hardly any restrictions or quality control, and are as unstable as a cracked egg….
If You care about Your children or any children, be against fireworks for untrained people…
There are at least a dozen places U can go and watch fireworks over the forth, $30,000 fireworks shows put on by professionals, go do that…
By the way three of those professionals that have been doing these shows for 40 years were KILLED this last 4th…..
If U want to do anything encourage the Pooolicceee to enforce the Laws on the Books and peruse people who shoot off Fireworks illegally over the forth… Look at the record of Police and Fire Calls over the forth and the Kids at the emergency room…
U what to loosen the laws, take a turn as a duty nurse at the emergency room first, U will change your mind….
Just one little kid with a hand blown off is enough….
Hey stranger....
Did you get my email..... I have sent him some recommendations that I have thought of and see if he will go with them. I don't feel children under the age of 12 needs to be allowed to set fire to anything. There again some adults don't need to either, but hopefully my recommendations will go through to Heacock and work. At least I can say I tried, he wants to hear from the citizens on this and all you have to do is email him and he will respond if you are nice.
Oh, wait that was an oxy-moron for me and some of us! LOL.... love ya MMinnoe
