My boy friend from SF has been wanting me to come out and get married and I had plans for a spring marriage…
I always wanted to be a June bride…
Now I find out Obama is against Gay marriage???
I don’t know what to think???
Can any of U Obama supporters help me get over this???

I will get over this, all I was hoping for was a brighter and different type of reunion for you. If you are going to do the white theme, don't do just any dress make sure it is a designer dress. Make sure Izard is in a designer suit and go with white and green for the colors. Oh, shave off the baird you don't want you vaile shorter than your baird. Make sure I get an invite and if I can't go, make sure I get pics okay?

Semantics
Gay marriage is a term that both parties are playing semantics with to avoid appearing to be a bigot.
It's marriage, the religious ritual of standing before God and vowing to only have sex wth that one person, that both Obama and McCain have voiced their opposition to gays participating in. With this stand, McCain is pandering to neo-cons and the religious right, while Obama is catering to moderate democrats.
However, both candidates are in favor of "Civil Unions," which means gay couples are allowed to legally devote themselves to their partners and enjoy all the same rights as a "married" man and woman.
So in reality, what's the difference between the two? Answer: nothing but words.
So if you're out there looking to vote based soley on your intolerance of gay people, you're out of luck this November. Guess you better find another issue.
Civil unions aren't marriage
He's not against gay civil unions. And he thinks it's up to each state to define what a marriage is. He also doesn't want an amendment to the constitution.
Our country isn't anything close to separation of church and state. For the government, a marriage is a contract. It gives each partner certain rights that they can do such as insurance, inheritance, what not so forth. So for the government, a civil union can be the exact same thing as what they call a marriage now.
A marriage on the other hand is a commitment made out of love from one person to another. A marriage is up to each couple to define, not the government.
I don't want the government telling me who I can love and commit to in a marriage. However, I do want the government protections in a civil union contract.
Civil Unions aren't only for gays
You're right, Marriage is a religious ceremony that the government needs to stay out of. I don't want the government to tell me what I need to do as far as religion. If you can find a church, pastor, tree or whatever floats your boat to be married, who cares if you say you're married? I remember couple in junior high school saying they were married and who cares.
Civil unions aren't just for gay couples. They are a contract between 2 people that allow for such things as inheritance, property, taxes, etc... As it stands currently you have to do thousands of pages of contracts to get the same benefit that you do by marrying somebody.
So marriage = religious and should just mean something between the couple and civil unions = contracts that the government recognizes with certain contractual rights.
