The Journal & the talking heads…

The Journal & the talking heads…
Are starting to say let GM crash, and retool and live on who ever sells the best car will make $$$$$
They are sayin that a good cool looking car that gets 100mpg could be possible in 3 years… a cool gas powered truck line is easy… Heck they have already made good electric cars and field-tested them in late 80’s
…. So they do know how to do that,
so lets let it crash and see who the really
“Henry Ford” types are…..
The guys with the best ideas will hire the best workers and build what the world will see as the best cars ever made…. If the Gov. will stay out of it, it could sort it self out in 5 years….

I'm all for loaning them money,

but if they get the loan, the suits should be taking pay cuts, not laying off the workers. They should put a limit on how much a CEO makes at any company that tax payers are bailing out. Why should they get rewarded for driving a company into the ground?

Auto co.

Its not that easy. If the "big/ 3" should gp bankrupt how mant others follow? Glass plants, glass fabricators, seat fabricatorsm, battery plants , dealeships, repair people, etc. It is endless. The only real choice is a short term loan with strict strings attached. There must be new management. That's up to the board of directors. There will need to be a restructuring of all union contracts, there will have to be a commitment to fuel energy design. The "loan" cannot be paid out all at once, but rather dribbled out as goals are met and the companies exhibit that they will produce a competetive product. Otherwise, the problem isnever solved and we stay in the same old rut.

It’s 1928 & buggy whips all over again…

It’s 1928 & buggy whips all over again…
The great depression was upon us and the world was a mess,
and the guys who had made tons on buggy whips were goin broke…
Well no one was interested in buggy whips now they wanted cars…
So the Gov let the buggy guys fail…
The best of them started makin boots…
Car tops, & belts…
GM is still makin buggy whips…

buggy whips

There is a world of difference between 1928 and 2008. The auto industry and all its subsisiary industries is megs times as extensive as in 1928. The employment level of GM alone is many times that of the entire industry in Henry Ford's day. Fact is, the gov't (we) can loan to the Auto companies, with restrictions, or we can dole it out to the 2 million or so unemployed as welfare with no possible return. I personally think the loan is a better move. The industry can be saved and made stronger. Unemployed people are a drag on society.
