If U have never met Elisa U should….
She truly is a force of nature on 24 & Sterling, she walks what she talks….
She sees a problem and she goes after it, with little regard for her own well being.
On a blog a week ago she was speaking of working with the kids around her store, she goes after them one on one, she is a true believer and if U haven't met her U should ?
Go by her shop and say HI, she is one of God's beautiful people….

I just met Elisa, I went in her store to find a bargin and came out with way more than I had ever hoped for. I found a person so full of hope and enthusiasm for our city, and not just one of those all talk no action kind we have running our city now. I know some have done good things, but it needs to be spread out and a fair share given to all areas of Indep especially the more run down ones.

Westend Blogger Thank You for the kind words. If I make it in office I will do all I can for all of Independence. The one comment that I have been told over and over again is. "You can't do anything. Nobody cares this is Independence. This is just how it is here." I have meet so many good people like you. I just feel together we can all do whatever we put our minds and hearts together to do. Independence is one of the last very affordable places to live and have a business. We just need to do more to address the crime on our streets. We also need to do more to address the drug and alcohol problems we have that lead to gangs and more crime. Thanks for your blog. xox
I tell U the price of the ticket to meet her is well worth it, She is one of God's special people....
Now tell everyone U now to go meet her she is the "Real Deal" for our City.....
Mminnoe you are to much!!! The ticket price is free and you are right I am The Real Deal. xox
Elisa, I am barely acquainted with you and the things you stand for. How about a brief bio, and maybe tell us what things in Independence are most important to you.
Complacency is the enemy. Be educated. Be aware. Be involved.
TeaPartyKC I will work on this and get back to you. I Thank You for asking me these questions. xox
I agree. Elisa is a wonderful person. After everything she went through a couple of months ago. She still has the power to move on. She is the one who we should all look up to. We love you Elisa. Keep up the good work.
Concerned Neighbor I have the power to move like I have with good friends like you!!! Please know I pray you keep up all of your good work in Susquehanna. I Love you and I am so proud of the little army you have going on to try and keep Susquehanna Safe. I don't know if Tina has told you yet but our favorite reporter and dear friend Toriano L. Porter just lost his 16 year old son. He lived out of town with his Mother. His 19 year old half brother was gunned down in June. Now his Mother and Toriano have lost yet another life gunned down in the streets that they must face forever and always. Toriano's Grandmother just drop in the street from the pain and the shock. Please keep them all in your prayers. Toriano did such a great job at the 3 on 3 hoops for us at the school and park. His speech to the kids that day was very powerful. It kills me how powerless we truly are to this war on our families with gangs and drugs. The last two days I have spent hours with a family by my shop who took their son out of Van Horn because of gang problems. The school feels they do not have but they do. The family don't have a car but yesterday I took them to a School called Satellite High School. I pray all works out for them please do the same. We know about these problems on both sides of town. Your side and my side. Amy it's people like you that I look up to so keep up the good work and keep the faith!!! We make a great team! xox
I was shocked to hear there are gangs at Van Horn I know in the past it had been bad but last year it seemed so different, I spent a little time gathering things for the Drama dept and went and walked through the school and was there while some of the props for the first play they had, and all of the kids I encountered were just wonderful and so excited about the changes taking place. I makes me a little sad that now they are having problems.

Westend Blogger we have some great kids at Van Horn. Please don't take it that the gangs have taken over Van Horn but we do have them. It's my great hope we can address the gang problem that we have before we are like the Northeast. We have some of their gangs along with some of our own. We have the 23St. Gang these are kids that I know. They are close to my shop and I have known them for years. They are good kids most of the time. They have always been very sweet to me. Now they are marking 23 Street what ever all over. We have also had The Midwest Beast Gang, Sur 13 and others at Van Horn. Somehow I know a lot of these kids and their parents. Van Horn has come along way. The school staff Love their work and the kids. Things are much better than ever but we need to still adderss this gang problem for all of our sakes. xox
Gee I never looked at it that way.... We called them clicks LOL I guess I belonged to the ditching gang, and boy we really were trouble makers too, we slept late then would meet at someones house and watch TV, listen to records ( the big round vynil things to you youngsters) LOL or played Monopoly.... we were really a menace . We carried transiter radios too you could really hurt someone if you could throw really hard.:)
Joking aside it is to bad the kids today are so full of anger and have not learned the value of human life or others property....

there have been gangs at VH & NE and all the KC schools since the50's ????
MY friend was a Debater at NE in the 60's so it's not new.... ISD has gangs too, always has but they were different, the Trumans LetterMans Club was a sort of a gang, Same as WC, and we Had HotRodders and JD's but we weren't shooting each other, fights were one on one,and when a guy said enough, U let him up???
Gangs have always been there, the World has changed....
Thank you. But I get my strength from my lil' army and from the people who put forth an effort, like you. I have to admit, I have noticed a little bit of change in the Susquehanna area. Most of the kids are gone from the Cler-Mont park by 8 p.m. So, what Tina and I have done is working. Yes, I did hear abot Toriano's son. And my heart goes out to his family and friends. May we all keep them in our hearts during this time for them. God Bless.
That took a ton of work for you to be able to say you have a empty park at 8 p.m. I pray it stays that way! xox
Just shows what an effort by a few can do???/
We get lulled into to thinking, "There is NOTHING I CAN DO" & it's just not true...
A flash camera at Night is more effective than a gun, U holler, flash a camera and announce, "I've Called the PooLiceeee" and Kids run, it's works I've used it for years...........
xox
mminnoe...That is for sure!!! everytime you hear the sirens just look out my back window and see them run. I hate to say it. But maybe god is the one who put that kid in my back yard. when the fight broke out the first time at Cler-mont. That's why I stepped up. The cops did nothing at that time. Thanks to the community and Tina we got it done. Thank you guys. I'm sure my lil' Army says the same. I guess that's why my 4 year tells me when there is someone at the park.
Mminnoe you are to kind to me. How did I get the toughest, loudest blogger who at times gets mad at me like the time we both went to battle for the safety tax on different sides still Love me??? I think it's cause we are both true believers. What I Love about you is you are a big tough guy but you do things like get second hand baseball gloves at the DAV and hand sew them for kids. You would make a great friend to any kid who would be lucky enough to know you. I know that I am lucky and blessed to have your friendship. You take care my friend!!! xox
.........I don't get out of the Emerald City much but if I'm out that way?...........I will make it a point to stop at her shop..........
