I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one, my friend...The reporters here at The EX pride themselves on being enterprising and breaking news stories before, when and in some cases after they happen. I have the complete most confidence in the writers we have here and I beg to differ on your insinuation that we wait on The Star to publish a story before we publish a story.. On the other hand, if we do write a story a week after it happens, don't you think -even with all the cutbacks at The Star - being outmanned by a 40 to 1 margin has something to do with it?. We have six reporters - SIX I say- who do a darn good job cover a variety of beats. At last check, before the last cutbacks at The Star, they had close to 200 reporters, many with one specific beat, i.e. police reporter, court reporter, city hall reporter, business reporter, feature reporter,etc.....I know for a fact, Kevin Hoffman at The Star was responsible - before cutbacks - for the police/crime beat in Independence and Brain Burnes covered exclusively the City Hall beat in Independence. I am responsible for those two beats all on my own and many, many, many others all wrap up into one, my friend.....
