Mercury may not arrive!

Due to recent reports, the public went nuts when talk of a hazardous waste storage facility in their city came up. Outcry reached Emanuel Cleaver and he vowed to keep KC off the Department of Energy's Final List.
People need to be aware of this even if it's not in the Independence Missouri area proper.

If they can keep it away from here that would be awesome for the fact we have enough mercury running through Missouri from the Ozark mercury mine. There is enough mercury in our water and soil through Missouri and the US that over exposure can create major issues. Take for instance my daughter 8 years old and autistic I was told by EPA to buy a water purifying system for our water to limit her mercury exposer so she doesn't get worse. I have done that, but it doesn't take it all the way out. We have too many mercury illness going on and no one can figure out why and honestly I don't think most of them care!
I can't find an Ozark mercury mine in Missouri. Can you give me a location? I checked the Independence water chemical analysis report and it reports that no mercury was detected in our water. KC probably has some due to surface runoff contamination, but Isn't it at or below allowable Federal Contamination levels.? Remember a few years back when everybody was warned not to eat Tuna? Turns out you would have had to have eaten every tuna in the ocean to have experienced mercury poisoning. Tuna is off the poison fish list now.
I don't know the location, I heard it from an environmental lawyer that use to work for EPA. She had to do an audit on all the water through Missouri and if I can find the paperwork it stated on there somewhere about the mercury mine in the Ozark mountain range. She never specified where, but they are very critical on water purification systems for all households. At one point a couple of years ago they were trying to give them out free to every family! Not many people responded! I went to wal-mart and bought one after EPA recommended it for her. When she did the audit for Independence, KCMO, BS, LS, PH, OG, GV, etc theirs were just so much above normal standards, but not enough to cause severe damage except to prolonged exposure.
OB/GYN's still don't want pregnant mothers to eat salmon or tuna except for within moderation of one can a week. Just to be on the safe side only. They only warn prolonged exposures to autistic children, that is why I won't let her have tap water anymore it is all purified. When we looked at that Indep water specs through environmental law class and then looked at the EPA specs there was mercury in the water and Independence didn't state it, b/c it really isn't enough to do quick damage. Before I took my daughter off of tap her heavy metal testing was high, now it is within normal range.
I can understand your concerns given that you have an autistic child and I hope you don't take my questions or statements as being negative in any way. I simply like to explore things.I don't understand the EPA issuing a report that indicated Independence water has a mercury content above federal reccommendations (.002 ppl) when the city audit lists none detected. I can understand warnings to pregnant women to not consume foods known to contain relatively high mercury or any oher heavy metal content. Practically all water contains some heavy metals of which mercury is only one. The presence of a heavy metal doesn't necessarily indicate mercury, it could be one or more of any heavy metal. If you remember where that mine is located I would still be interested.
You know that is why I didn't do very well in environmental law is because I didn't understand it. I know it wasn't that far above federal regulations, but it was enough at the time to keep an eye on it. The lawyer never told us the location all she said was in the Ozarks, that is why I cannot tell you a location. Honestly Civil, I don't understand what any heavy metal has to do with autism, most of it has been genetic or environmental but even that is disputable. Does that make sense? The way I see it my ex and a few of his family members have autism, mental retardation and CP, so I don't see it as just an environmental issue. I'm still doing the research on the link myself and have been for 4 years...... I'm just telling you what an environmental lawyer told us, that is all...... I'm going off of reports and doctors, I know that her heavy metal testing has come back now within normal range since we switched her to purified, that is a fact that I do know! You got to figure what in the world is floating through our water and it not be reported. For example...... antibiotics, pain killers, arsenic, anything being flushed down a household sewer drain or main sewer drain. They are not going to report everything in our water, it would send a path of fright, AM I RIGHT?
You know me, I can get to be irritating I am so nosy. Anyway, I just looked up the EPA tests of the Independence water supply from 1998 -2003. They found traces of 19 contaminants, and only one above federal limits (arsenic by .a trace). They found no mercury at all. Independence has about as safe a water supply as one could hope for. In fact, with the recent revelations of the contaminants leached into bottled water from the plastic container, I would say it is safer than bottled water. Distilled water might be better, but have you ever tasted it? Yuck!!
........I thought they still warn pregnant women about eating salmon becasue of mercury contamination.........

I don't know about that. It has been a while since I had to worry about pregnant women. You are probably right. From what I have seen on the news pregnant women these days are expected to be on a really strict diet.
..........ROFL...........I've never had to worry about a pregnant woman......thank God........but I saw it on TV.......my idiot box..........

My stepdaughters OB/GYN told her to stay away from salmon and tuna a year ago, but I think it now depends on the doctor. My OB/GYN told me 5 years ago to eat within moderation of one can a week and they give it too you on WIC!

Wow, Dragon Queen Lady, you never cease to amaze me. I did not know that. What is the link about autism and mercury? I am glad you gave your thoughts on this. However, it could still come here and if it is moved who would want it! Just curious, but what other safe guards did they recommend, diet or anything?
Use to they thought that mercury was the cause of autism, but it has been proven the mercury from the MMR shot is not the cause it is from genetics. Mercury exposure aggrevates the autism because of it being a hard metal. Hard metal instills in your body and it is hard to remove it without a hard metal stripper, but it can be done unless you have repeated exposure to it. Since Missouri water has mercury along with other hard metals running through it the body cannot uphold the over-exposure. Since autism is a neurological disorder it will affect the brain along with a gene called Chromosone X-Y, it will attach to it and alter the genes. She is so far into the autism, no diet will help except for the gluten free/casein free diet. That is where the pasta, sugar come in at. It will help with behavior only. There is no cure for autism regardless of the claims from Jenny McCarthey, if the diet cured her son then he didn't have autism to begin with. Outside of diet which you need a dietian to alter the diet you have behavior therapy as a support ground. Some kids are too far into the disease to even have either help to much. EPA stated if you can even get 1/2 of the mercury exposure out away from children with autism it will help behaviorally too. You asked me why I'm so brutual in an earlier blog Laharl and we had fun discussing some issues, but my main stress is helping her. There are tons of reports and there is a very well-known supreme court case stating mercury is not the main reason for autism, but it doesn't help. Yes it could still come here, but for the fact lay there are supporting data that states out of every 150 kids of 250 kids in missouri will have autism. Right now, Missouri, Minnesota and New Jersey are the 3 highest states to have so many children with autism because these are the 3 tops states with known mercury mines.
Now do you understand why I'm the way I am?
.........I JUST received an education about mercury..........all I knew was from the hoopla about Jenny McCarthy and about vaccinations for children.........the correlation between the autism rate and the three mercury mines is astounding.....or maybe it isn't ......if you know what I mean...........I 've never actually thought about mercury mines......let alone know that we had one in Misoouri.........they didn't teach me that in the 4th grade when I studied our home state.............another reason why I appreciate what people "bring to the table" in this forum.......some info might be subjective.......but most of the time it doesn't have the spin of the professional media.........people's personal observations......from personal experiences........invaluable.........rather than hearing from a "talking head" who reads from a teleprompter........who got the info from a "study which was recently " done.........studies are good......but I hAVE to believe they are mainly vehicles to further agendas.........call me jaded...........

This is the problem. We know that mercury must be confined. It can't be allowed to be left in a position to contaminate soil or water. KC doesn't want it. I'll lay you odds none of the other four suggested sites will want it. So, what do we do with it? Put it in a steel tank car and just shuttle it around the country side? What is the danger everybody is fearful off? Doesn't it take direct exposure to be harmful? You absorb it into the skin or eat or drink contaminated foods? Just how much real danger is posed by a mercury cache when it is contained in a secure location? I don't know, but I suspect the most critical danger would be in the transportation of the element.
How about a million square miles of desert???
go in the middloe dig a hole etc........
.........far too simple......there wouldn't be people that live around the site .........Al Gore and the environmentalists would march on Washington......to save the "polka dotted desert lizard".........and the "hoopty doo ants" that live in tHAT desert..........much better to put it around humans.......maybe a constituancey that you DID'NT like.......to help in the next election........where's Oliver Stone when you need him?..........of yeah.......WE have the dreaded................Laharl.................LAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARL !!!!...........'WHERE ARE YOU?"...........ROFL............

NO its empty !!!
I've driven across that desert a thousand times in 60 years and there is nothing out there???
REALLY....
.......let me see if I have this straight mminoe........correct me if I'm wrong..........but it SOUNDS like.........that you're proposing that politicians do something that makes sense ........AND saves money............what the heck is WRONG with you?..........are you crazy man?.............they can't do THAT..........it's against every particle of DNA in their bodies..........you can't make a peacock act like a dolphin........they have to be what they are.........I buy you books......I send you to school........but you JUST won't learn............(sigh).

They tried that approach with the spent nuclear fuel disposal. Wonder of wonders. There were people out there, and guess what, they, along with help from the Sierra Club, stopped it dead.
........good afternoon Senator Civil.......glad to have you with us.......

silly me ,,,,,,,,,,
Civil, people like you are the watchers of things, I know some, but your expertise and knowlege are needed, people like you are the salt of the Earth!
Looks like Emanuel Cleaver must read the blogs too. xox
