Welcome!
I would like to welcome you all to my first attempt at writing a blog. O.K., maybe that's not entirely true. I have written blogs for my family and friends on sites such as Myspace or Facebook, but nothing that can be read by all the Examiner's readers, so bare with me for a couple of weeks!
My name is Kelly Evenson. I am the education writer for the Examiner and the proud mother of Lauren, who is now 13 months old. I have worked for the Examiner for almost nine years, most of that covering the Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Independence, Fort Osage, Oak Grove and Lee's Summit school districts. I also, for a year and a half, covered the city of Blue Springs. I am a graduate of Kansas State University (Go Cats!), earning a bachelor of science degree in 2000. The same year, I was married to my husband Jeremy, and we moved to Kansas City. Though I am not originally from this area (both my husband and I are from Kansas), I have grown to love the Blue Springs and Independence area and consider this my new home.
As a working mother, I decided that the subject of my blog would be what else – the life of a working mother. I plan to discuss parenting issues, both my own and things going on in the nation and world as well as the day-to-day challenges of raising a child. If any readers out there have any questions or subjects you want to see addressed, pass them along. Any ideas would be great!
My goal is to have a new blog up each week, if not maybe more. I am excited about this opportunity and cannot wait to get started!

An excellent idea. I have also read articles that more and more fathers are making the choice to stay home with their kids. I will make a note of that idea and mention it in future blogs. Thanks for the idea.
Don't forget about working Dads and even stay at home Dads. I just read an article about how more men are staying home and the Mom is bringing home the bacon.
