Pet Peeve with Some KC Sports Fans
Had the privelage to go to Kauffman today with my family. Weather was great, got a free KC Monarch jersey and had the thrill and honor of shaking hands with some true legends of the Negro Baseball League at a table in the outfield.
I love our town's venues, they are truly world class... BUT...the one thing that drives me crazy is every time I go to a game in KC, the last line of our National Anthem is sung by enough people to hear the difference: "....and the home of the CHEIFS." instead of "... and the home of the BRAVE."
I realize these loud classless few think they are being clever, but this is utter disrespect in my opinion.
What makes this even more idiotic, is to demonstrate spirit for your football team at a baseball game.
I hope this stupid tradition goes away. Philadelphia fans are famous for booing Santa Claus.

P.S. BTW....being a Chicago Boy I am glad the White Sox won today. Also, being a season ticket holder for Bears games in Chicago, we never sing "...and the home of the BEARS." even when we play the Packers. We wait until the Anthem ends, take our hands off our hearts, sit down, wait for the kick-off then go nuts!

......because of our "rights & liberties" in this country....PROVIDED by the men and women in the armed services....and our forefathers.......citizens have long been able to criticise government and our political leaders......in some respect......BECAUSE of that.......perhaps Americans haven't "felt" the patriotism so evident after WWI and WWII.......the wars we have fought of late have been widely criticised......and maybe rightly so.......I've been to many venues and observed Americans "chatting on their cell phones" , talking or just generally showing disrespect while the "National Anthem" was being played........patriotism diluted by decades of "what can my country do for ME".......at the "Memorial Day Celebration" at Union Station I observed about 50,000 people on their feet showing respect for our flag and anthem that represents EVERYTHING that made this counrty great.......it kind of gave me chills........people united in difficult times......perilous times.......the kind of "patriotism and unity' that might help us pull out of this mess........so to degrade , dilute or disenfranchise our national anthem for ANY reason?..........not acceptable...........cheesey..........embarassing...........too much ado about nothing?.........that's how things erode.........like our personal freedoms......"one little piece " at a time..........so let's show respect for our flag.....and our anthem.....and "what they stand for".......the men and women who DIED to give us the freedom to watch a sports game when we FEEL like it..........

The Korean vets were treated OK my brother was one…
But when we came back form Nam it was a mess..
I came home to Frisco, Vet hospital; I was there for 11 months..
By then I met a girl and got married and lived there 21 years…
The games were OK people showed respect but U didn’t wear Ur uniform any where U didn’t have to… they even let us leave and return to the base in Civvies?
But None of the hippies in the park used a flag for a tablecloth or a blanket in my presence… I collected a few…
I think the problem now is we don’t know any one in the wars??? They aren’t wars most people are interested in???
Less than 3% of the US pop are taking part in the wars we have going on right now… ??? If it ain’t Ur kid, most don’t care ??
Vietnam for ten years it was on TV every night, now a car bomb kills 40 people and it’s a 5 sec blab, behind American Idol ????
No one has ever defended this country with a Guitar or a Microphone..
You know Joe, I will have to agree that is extremely disrespectful and people need to be shot for doing it. That is not our national anthem and football doesn't start for a few more months. So they need to lay off the pot, b/c it is seriously killing what brains cell they didn't have to begin with.
