JULY 20 9:56 P.M. (CST)

That is the precise 40 year anniversary of the Moon Landing.

I thought it would be kind of fun to ask the blogging community to opine what, where and who they remember during that historic moment in time.

For me, in the South side of Chicago  I remember our Dad waking us up in the wee hours of the morning to watch the broadcasts before and after so we wouldn't miss a second.

I look forward to reading your blogging responses.

As I read these,  I'll be at my drawing board  munching on Pillsbury Space Food Sticks   (remember those combination tootsie roll and clay things?  Today we'd call them "Energy Bars").

I'll wash them down with a huge glass of Tang.

Thanks

The moon landing was kind of a significant blip in the events of the time. But it was overshadowed by the social and civil unrest of the time. Bobby Kennedy and MLK had been assinated the previous year. I was a senior in High School and helped a buddy of mine that worked in a funeral home. We went down to General Hospital in the midst of the Kansas City riots to pick up a body for a funeral and there was just an erie feeling all over the city. The year after the moon landing was the Kent State massacre, and all the while there was civil unrest over the Viet Nam war. The moon landing was probably one of the few positive events.

I nearly forgot about Woodstock, I wasn't a hippy, couldn't afford to be one. there was a buzz about going to NY even here in Jackson Co. There was a lot of good music written during the civil unrest era. Wasn't much in.to the Jimi Hendrix heavy metal, but Janis Joplin, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Joe Cocker music has sustained the times even more so than the moon landing

........nobody speaks of the Kansas City riots much........my black friend discussed it with me one day.......he lived  in the inner city when the whole Black Panther's thing was going on and whatnot........perilous times ......a few years back I had a friend who had a friend....whose family owned that cemetary off 435.....I foget their name....but my friend took me to visit his buddy one day......he lived  in the back.......past the stack of coffins.......and an incinerator......in an apt.......with a parrot and a dobe..........it was kind of creepy to me......but I guess you get used to it........at night..........at least it would be quiet.........."not a creature was stirring.....not even a mouse".........well.........maybe a mouse.......do parrots eat mice?...........

I was in CA in 75 during Watts, my cousin was a Sheriff and they worked 24 hours a day for weeks,
it was too dangerous for them to try and get home???
The rest of the family lived in Downey, by Disney Land…
SF was pretty cool, so me and a Bud who had been in Nam with me loaded up and went down to Downey and stayed with the Old folks & kids while my cousin was at “WORK” ?
Nothing happened to US but it was just blocks away????
Sad time for our Republic?
About like KC over the weekend??????
Hey I got some Starlight tickets I can’t use, any takers??????

......my friends all volunteer out there.......see shows free..........I don't though......what  are the tickets to?.........if you can't find anybody I might be able to find someone.........

Like your father, I gathered my four kids, along with the wife, and sat glued to the television all the way through, from separation from the "mother" ship to the first small step for mankind. I have never tired of watching re-runs for 40 years. I feel sorry for the conspiracy theorists who just can;t accept that it did occur and what a fantastic nation this is to have pulled it off.

AS  I WAS watching the new enhanced footage I couldn't help but notice as the Flag was unfurled it flapped there in the brezzeeee,      where do U think they got the Breeeezeeee?
Old buddy who works at the Cape, is checking it out for me, maybe it was Can of Breeeze, or Breeeze R us?

......I heard some astronaut talking about the flag issue....with gravity issues and no wind......so they put some kind of a rod that sprung out so the flag would stay extended......i don't know if it was on the first mission or later......I juts heard a "snippet" from the other room.......

eldoggg

OK i'll buy that.....
But on the video ? it is Clearly waving???
Like in a brezzeeeeee???
My buddy that works at the Cape in FL and I have argued about this for Year's........
Where did theBreeeeezzzzeeeeeee come from?

......(music playing in background ).........Call me the breeze
I keep blowin down the road
Well now they call me the breeze
I keep blowin down the road
I aint got me nobody
I dont carry me no load

Aint no change in the weather
Aint no changes in me
Well there aint no change in the weather
Aint no changes in me
And I aint hidin from nobody
Nobodys hidin from me
Oh, thats the way its supposed to ..........................

I've seen that "snippet" many times and all I've ever seen is the flag unfolding with a little shaking from the hands of the placer. Nothing that even resembles a breeze. Imagination isa wonderful thing, especially when you are following an agenda.

like I said to my wife when  she caught me in bed with her sister?
Honey are U goin to believe Ur lyin eyes or ME ?????????? lol

Your past must read like an Encyclopedia Britanica. Trying to outrun your shadow must have cost you a good 15 years of life.

.........and YET?............another great song.........ROFL............."those lyin eyes"................

I was in my crib... burping up strained peas!

Even though I was really young when it happened, I recall my siblings crowding around our small set to catch a glimpse of the landing. I remeber that even then, a lot of people called it a total hoax. Some of them still do.

Do you think it was real or not? A lot of people criticize the way the shadows on the moon were, and the fact that a movie set could have been made just to one up the Commies. I think it happened, but there are a lot of plausible theories.

I had just got back from a tour i Nam, my new wife and I had Navy Housing at Hunters Point i SF,CA.
We had half a Quincent Hut...
We unpacked some wedding gifts, found a blender and had a  blender party, makeing grass hoppers...
As we landed on the moon we landed on each other...lol

.......to quote  William Jefferson Clinton......."I have no recollection of that"..........I must have been out riding my purple "Spyder" bike with  "high rise " handlebars , banana seat and "sissy bar"...........don't know if the folks called us in or not.......I distinctly remember  the "Kennedy Asassination"......and  I was in Kindergarden when that happened....I remember walking home in Kindergarden around Halloween......with my new mask that we made.......with a paper sack.......only I hadn't cut the eye holes out yet......I wandered a few feet out in the road......a jeep came around the corner and ran over my foot......all with my new mask  on......don't ask me what I was thinking......apparantly I wanted to see what it looked like from the inside......I waited a month to tell my folks......ROFL......I realize this statement opens me up to abuse from my detractors.......but those are the two things......other than nearly drowning.......  that I remember from when I was 5............I  had just turned 11  when they landed on the moon...........(pssst......they REALLY did)...........but  "I got nothin" as they say........I'm gonna ask my mom if SHE remembers..........I brought the news of Elvis and MJ......she remembers THAT......sorry I couldn't do better............it's funny the things we remember............mminoe's recollection  experience is MUCH better than mine......but hey......I was 11.................the only thing I could ride was my bike................ROFL.................if it WAS on a Sunday night as  I'm told?.........I would have been stuffing my pie hole upon getting home from church..........which for me at the time?..........would have been FAR more important  to eat my bowl of ice cream........ than to see a "couple guys in suits".........bouncing around on the moon.............
