Heroic Nuns
What a great story in today's Examiner about the Nuns helping catch a burglar.
What does our blogging community think of this? You guys and gals usually have terrific commentary.

Conspiracy Theories
A couple of blogs back regarding the Moon Landing someone brought up the subject of it possibly being a staged Hollywood event and a government conspiracy.
I for one do not beleive it was. If I see some digitally enhanced footage of a second shooter in a grassy knoll on the Sea of Tranqulity I may think differently.

JULY 20 9:56 P.M. (CST)
That is the precise 40 year anniversary of the Moon Landing.
I thought it would be kind of fun to ask the blogging community to opine what, where and who they remember during that historic moment in time.
For me, in the South side of Chicago I remember our Dad waking us up in the wee hours of the morning to watch the broadcasts before and after so we wouldn't miss a second.
I look forward to reading your blogging responses.
PAT BARNHARD
I know most bloggers subscribe to the Examainer (printed version).
Today's front page (WEDS) had Pat Barnhard's untimely death on the front page.
He was truly one of the most sincere and best ambassadors for the city of Independence in recent years.
He is a gentleman that will truly be missed. My 2 cents.

HEY THERE SPORTS FANS! A BIT OF TRIVIA
This coming Monday, July 13 is one of just 2 days throughout the entire year where there is not a professional Sports Game scheduled in the U.S.
Pro sports meaning, MLB, NHL, NBA and NFL.
363 out of 365 days. Only 2 days no games. This Monday is one of the two. What do you think is the other day? Hint: it is the same 2 days every year.

Ben Franklin Five & Dime
Today's Independence Examiner front page photo of the Englewood district with the old Ben Franklin 5 & 10 sign in the image was terrific. Examiner photographers are true artists. I hope that sign remains up and is cared for regardless of the store name business below. To be an arts/ cultural district that piece of history has to remain up there forever.
"OUR" Independence Square
I have been meaning to comment on this for some time.
The re- development , care and business additions to the Independence Square area have been wonderful.
The one thing I always thought was a negative message and detrimental as a gateway into the Square was taken care of sometime last year.
Stevie Wonder Show
One thing I truly enjoy is being an ambassador at Starlight Theatre (who BTW supports The Examiner's NIE Program ( NewsPapers in Education.. providing Examiners at no cost to our area's schools).
This past Friday, as an ambassador I had the privelage to see Stevie Wonder perform. What a thrill, I was there for the sound check and to hear Stevie Wonder want to retake some bars on "Higher Ground". That is something not alot of people can say they've heard.
It Must be June...I'm Having a Cabbage Roll Jones !
Slavic Fest in Sugar Creek this Friday and Saturday is an event I look forward to every year. This mingling crowd is comprised of the warmest and friendliest people you'll ever meet. The entertainment and attractions are one of a kind and terrific.
And the FOOD! I can already taste the aftertaste of the Cabbage rolls now! My Mom's husband Charlie is known as the "King of Cabbage Rolls" in Chicago. His are 600 miles away and Slavic Fest's are better (sorry Charlie).
Unbeleivable Generosity in our Community
As you may or may not know, I make available signed prints of my editorial cartoons for a donation to Hope House.
A gentleman called me last week for one of my gags he liked. I suggested the $25 for a signed print that is limited to 100.
He came in with a check for 3 times the suggested donation.
I was floored. Our community is the greatest with this type of generosity.

Pet Peeve with Some KC Sports Fans
Had the privelage to go to Kauffman today with my family. Weather was great, got a free KC Monarch jersey and had the thrill and honor of shaking hands with some true legends of the Negro Baseball League at a table in the outfield.
A Little Cartooning Help From My Friends.....
I am working on an Ed/Op cartoon that involves the Great Norman Rockwell. I am pretty sure I've got it but to help me out, I ask the Blogging Community:
When you think of Norman Rockwell which painting pops into your head first?
A miilion thanks for your response.

Memorial Day List
Here is my Memorial Day list to be sure nothing is forgotten:
Hot Dogs (Vienna Beef- I make real Chicago Hot Dogs)
Hamburgers
Bratwurst
Buns (poppyseed hot dog buns are a must for a true Chicago dog)
Beer (I'm loving the Original 1960's Schlitz recipe they've brought back)
Pop
Condiments (ketchup, mustard, relish) For the Chicago Dogs, need cucumbers, onions and celery salt.
Potato Chips (must be Jays original)
Jarts
And the MOST IMPORTANT ITEM on the list:
An Observation on Youth
Before I throw out my observation....my last blog had a trivia question I need to answer for you.
Which brothers combined for the most Home runs in Major league baseball?
The Answer: The Aaron brothers. 768 home runs Henry hit 755 and Tommie 13. Interestingly Tommie was in the big leagues from '62 - 71 and 8 of those homers were in one season. When I first heard this question I thought it was either the Dimaggios (Joe and Dom) or the Alou Brothers (Matty, Felipe and Jesus).
THANKS FOR YOUR GREAT IDEAS
Thank you bloggers for your terrific suggestions for Ed/Op cartoons the other day. After reading your posts Wednesday and Erin Burroughs column on bus service, I was inspired and knocked out 3 gags that night sent to The Examiner. Civil, Todd, Mikey and Elisa really got my wheels turning. Thank you. Erin, please chime in more often with the the Bloggers. You have some great thinking and slants.
