Too Close for Comfort
This shooting was a little close, as in a few blocks away from my house. To be honest, we don't see the police over here that often. This is especially true on the weekend nights While relatively quiet, we've had some problems.
A few months ago, someone had their car window shattered by a car driving by. They threw something intentionally because they got the hell out quick. Not to mention the people who drive like idiots down Noland and 23rd.
I have to say that this may be the result of having such a club like "Club Dallas" down the street. Most of the patrons are not from Independence. This was observed one night at a bar down the street from the place one Saturday night.
Four younger looking people came close to closing time. One of the individuals would not produce ID to the bartender. Instead of forking over a piece of state plastic, they gave lip, started to cuss and say "you didn't ask any of these white M-F'ers" and so on. It took the undercover cop that had followed them to try to control the situation.
While the cop was also of their race, the individual who I believe did identify himself as not being from Independence, continued to the point where the the group was removed from the bar and the doors had to be locked for security reasons.
I should also point out that Hot 103, who broadcasts from the club every weekend, is the same station that bashed our city. I remember remarks about the police and Independence Center. Is this what we want in our city?
We're forgetting that we are a tourist destination. The cops have to block off streets around Dallas' so that they are forced drive on Noland to 70. How does this look to the Community of Christ convention goers, tour groups, and others who pay good money to visit our historic city? If there is a venue that has the potential to go in a bad direction that they restrict the male entry age to 25 and above, should it be directly next to a residential area?
These problems aren't what should be expected in Independence. I have to work in Johnson County and it hurts when I get jabs for living in this town. It's getting hard to defend Independence. If one more incident happens, I will move. No more defending Independence when all we see places like Club Dallas as revenue sources and ways for the police to get overtime while one of our own citizens gets murdered a mile away.

Just tell those JoCO morons to stop ragging on Independence or they are going to get a refresher course on the lessons of Quantrill's Raiders. Since they apparently think we're all gun toting, meth addicted psychopaths, they will believe you.
I have ragged on this club for two years
The Mayor and the Council, OKed the Lic to open the club, even though it has no place here in our town.
the owner is a Felon from KS, they know this and gave the lic anyway.
Former Chief Mills begged the Council NOT to let them open…
Now its open and a mess….
This Mayor & Council have little regurad for the people of Indep. Now they are going to look at making fireworks legal, even though we voted to prevent there sales…
My dad emailed me about that shooting. He lives on Osage right by Spring St. He said the gunfire woke him and my mom up. He also said it was just a little too close to home for him. Thats scary stuff man...

but if it's like what you said it needs to be closed down. KC is really cracking down on these "hip hop" clubs because of all the shootings and maybe Independence needs to do that as well.
Good luck on that. We will be looking at two things, unfortunately.
A) Tax revenue. This place pulls in some dough from what I've heard for the city tax rolls. Also, again from what I've heard, the club has to pay the cops for the overtime. I hope that overtime also pays for the cops sitting on Noland blocking off 39th and Lynn Court.
Let's also not rely on the security net of the OT police. They can not control what happens before they enter the club since most, if not all, are inside.
B) Race card. The owner, as a last resort, will pull the race card. This would be a low-ball move because we're not all white. Then the media, especially KCTV and KSHB, will trash our city with some of their more than biased coverage. This wouldn't make sense because Independence has a good sized black population.
We're F'd either way. It's not a matter of race at all. Hip-hop clubs in general have not had a good track record when you have a few hundred people in one place.
And our city is so lop sided on who it gives liquor licenses, it's beyond funny. The Woodstock Inn, within almost the same distance to a neighborhood, gets denied because the Community of Christ objected, to offer liquor to their guests. Then the drama-laden Dallas' case is filled with lies that is also very close to houses (I used to live in the neighborhood up until a few months ago) and they get their way.
Like I've said before, City Hall needs cleaned out. Or at least, like in those Ditech "Transparent" TV ads, kept in a glass box and watched carefully.
I live by the Woodstock Inn they just had an auction 2 sell it. The little gas station at River and Truman also went before the C.C. asking 2 sell liquor of course he was turned down. I was at the C.C. when they told him NO, but of course he can sale all the glass roses he wants 2. At The Crime Task Force Meeting in Nov. The Mayor and some of the C.C. was their along with a State Senator who all about died when I pulled out the glass roses and said why do we support these. Well I was told we cant do any thing about the sell of them. Now I see why this place got its nick name. City Hall needs to be cleaned out 4 sure. The problem is all the brainwashing and programming people have had. When I saw all the crime going on around my home and business I talked 2 our Mayor. I said I needed 2 go before the C.C about all the gang activity I was seeing. He told me he could not have me talk about the gang problem before the C.C. so with out his blessings I did go before them. Criminal street gangs will always take the ez road and ez communities. We have city leaders who give blessings 2 them. I for one am sick of all the Graffiti, broken windows, and foolish people who accept it . Our City has made one thing clear 2 me they do not want to be TRANSPARENT. They do not want you 2 be informed. The Club you all talk about is a great problem. When Q.T. has to close down because of all the Hell and Drama you know it is true Hell. All the poor businesses who are around that club have been put through Hell go talk 2 them. It is bumper 2 bumper one way out with IPD telling you were 2 go. Fights and Broken glass in A Sea of Mayhem. Crime is everywhere we are told. I agree it is everywhere. But the question is how do we deal with it. In Independence they want us to be brainwashed into accepting it, or pretending we don’t see it. News Flash you are sooooo right we can clean house at City Hall. Who wants to help???
the guy who really owns Dallas is White an exfelon from KS
