Welcome to Jackie's world

I know what you're wondering. What's with the silhouette??? Is she in the witness protection program or something?
No. It's just that I, Jackie, am everywoman. I'm single. I'm married. I'm retired. I'm a young careerwoman. Kids. No kids. You get it. I represent all the wonderful women of Eastern Jackson County. And I want to hear from you.
This blog isn't intended to be so much about me and my opinion as it is to be a place where we all can share our concerns about our communities and -- just as important -- our solutions to those concerns. It's a place where we can lend each other support. Share tips, trends and maybe even a recipe or two.
So, what do you want to talk about?

Good sense and good citizenship say buying locally is the way to go.  Patronizng mom and pop shops rather than national chains benefits the local economy and is environmentally responsible.  Try as I might, however, my dedication to local spending frequently ends in frustration because of limited selection, higher prices, and lack of incentives.  Big box stores have a capacity to offer rewards and discounts that independent retailers cannot.  Clothes shopping in charming boutiques rather than national retailers is hit or miss because of limited inventory and size runs.  It's easy to see why the convenience of Internet shopping and bargaing hunting on Ebay and Craig's List at all hours becomes a temptation.  What can hometown retailers do to compete?

I have a mom and pop shop we just try and have the lowest prices in town on what we have. We are small and so is our inventory but the people who shop with us know we care about them and our community. We are old fashion we guarantee with a promise to replace anything that does not work or last as it should. We even tell our people if this is a gift and it does not fit or it's not loved we will give you your money back. The mom and pops know you can shop the world over we know its a friendship and respect that will bring you back to us. We are the backbone of any city. We do what we can because we know all of us have a big stake here. You may find more inventory on Ebay and Craig's List and get to shop 24/7 but if you loose you mom and pops you will loose much more than "Things to shop for." You will loose people who care about your community and your kids. You are not just money to us you are our friends. When we move out of any community crime goes up I guarantee that also. Thanks for your blog.
