Public Safety

Chief of Police Tom Dailey is about town presenting some pretty compelling information about crime in the City of Independence.  Women tend to be particularly sensitive about the topic of crime.  They feel vulernable to more crimes than men and that even women without natural-born children possess a protective instinct.  Independence is perceived as an area of high-crime, and there are statistics readily available that reveal what crimes are being committed and where.
Do women in our community feel that our city is unsafe?  What measures do you take to insure your personal safety?  Do you think more police officers is the answer to the crime problem?

I LOVE Indep, I grew up here.  I have lived around the world, I spent 21 years in San Francisco it was great. When I moved back here I lived in Joplin for ten years
I love the rural life down there…
But when I got sick I had to move back to KC to be close to VA so Here I am back home in Indep & I love it..
NO I’m not afraid to go out in a wheel chair up & down 23 street from 291 to Noland.
But what Elisa is trying to get across to everyone is the crime & the gangs are coming our way, and a lot of them are already here…
The fed Gov added KC to the top ten destanations list of Mexican gangs coming to USA…
All of the area Chiefs are getting to gather this month to talk about gangs & crime
.So we all know we have a problem, now on the west side of town and soon the entire town, and after that Blue Springs and on East…
Those cities are growing because people are running from crime… Plain and simple that’s it…
Now U can put Ur head in the sand and say it ain’t so or U can fill up some sandbags and get ready and when U see the first sign like a tag, or a group wearing colors or taggin, U call the Poooliccee, and if U don’t get an answer U call back.. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease… Be a pain make them serve U.  We pay their salaries and they need to remember that…
Remial was elected not anointed…
So we really need to get off this “SHOOT THE MESSANGER” mind set we have going here by our leaders, talking about our problems do not make them worse.
If enough people find out what is going on then we can make a change as a group of tax paying citizens…
Keep Ur water boilin Elisa we love U.

Thanks friend if I did not Love Independence and it's people I would not do what I am doing. This is not FUN. This is costing me money I don't want to spend and a lot of precious time I will never get back. Thanks for your blogs and your friendship. xox

For the record I have a son and a daughter.

The problem with the statistics is that they are not a true full picture of what we live with because people don't always call the police. No one seems to understand this.

If we are not under sieged with gangs please tell us why the City of Independence makes us look at Gang Graffiti everyday up and down 24th street. I am sick of it. I reported our stop sign problems months ago. The city gives us two days and they are not getting rid of theirs. Words mean nothing actions speak loauder than words. If you want to get in frount of this problem clean this up and get down here. How much money have we paid out on all the tagged stop signs and park equipment. How many stop signs are missing that the city has not replaced. Jackie I don't care about lip service. Do I feel women in our community are safe. Today I went to Timber Wind Apartments at 1401 S. Cunningham St. in Independence. I wanted to talk to management about a dumping problem that my friends are having. As we waited for them to open I spoke to a little young couple who had a gun put up to their heads by their nerghbor after they beat this young girl up. Feel free to call David Payne the manager on this one. You don't want to get me started on this because this is what drives me for answers. I take as many classes on safety as I can. I Love Lake City Shooting Range. Do I think we need more cops on the street??? Only a fool would say no. Our city has had the same amount of cops they had for the last 20 years only very recently has that changed. On the other hand the IPD has made some bad history for itself. People always remember that and never forget it. They need to work more with their people to clean that up. The police department is basic service that the city has never supported much. I am not into warm & fuzzy feelings or empty words. I am into ACTION. Our Officials can say that I am over reacting but I know our people understand we are Under Sieged.
