What do you think of FEMA giving another grant to Independence to bury power lines? This makes the fifth grant and totalling $6 million just since 2003, but yet Independence has only been able to bury 5,800 people power lines.

I am assuming you are referring to the service line from the house to the pole. As I read the program, it pertains only where the line is threatened by trees. At any rate, it costs close to $1000/line, so 5800 lines x $1k would be close to the total of all grants. Is this all correct?

That is from what I read also, but why don't they just bury all the lines and no one would have to worry about ice storms and stuff!

Maybe it is the total cost. How many lies would equire burying and at what cost? To completely elimiate the problem all lines, main, feeder, service would have to go uder. Humongous task and expense.
