Recession or Depression
Since IndyMac 110 banks have failed. Representing 3000 bank offices.
FDIC says another 500 banks may fail.
We are around 10% unemployment.
When does a recession become a depression?
When Times Are Tough Enough Is Enough Please Vote No!!!
At 24th Street and Sterling our sign reads Vote No On Aug. 4th Tax Increase! When Times Are Tough Enough Is Enough! We feel it's heartless to ask people at this time with our uncertain economic climate to add more on their plates when some can't even put enough food on their plates. The Big Guys may not know how hard it is to get a job or keep the doors of your store open but we do! May God Bless Our Efforts because most people I talk to don't even know about this very, very, very costly election.
Who Is Don Harvey? What a Great Guest Column Today!!!

Susquehanna Fort Osage Neighborhood 3 on 3 basketball stars
Last Saturday the community rallied together to support a three-on-three basketball tournament at Cler-Mont Elementary. The day was all about having a great time in the park and feeling "Love & Support" from City Officials like Jim Schultz, Lucy Young and Will Swoffer. It was about people like the Darling Family who owns Tastee Freez that came with all their little ones. This is the little story I want you to know about them.
Just Vote No August 4th
Voting against this tax is not a vote against law enforcement, we simply can't afford this increase!
Ballot language does not guarantee how this new forever tax of $6 Million will be spent.
City's bad stewardship: The August 4th "Special Election" has cost taxpayers $191,500
Basic services Police, Fire and Streets should be funded first within current $70 Million Annual General Fund Operating Budget.
Honest management never ask for tax increases to pay for basic services unless a city is broke.
The My Arts Program
The story Toriano L. Porter did on the anti-drug arts program that could fill the boarded up building at 315 N. Main St. just north of the Independence Square sounds like a wonderful idea. The North East has it's Mattie Rhodes Art and Counseling Center. Now we too may have a great program that will help our youth find alternate way to express themselves through the arts. The council is expected to vote on the ordinance July 20th I plan on being their. xox
The Boys & Girls Club Is A Positive & Powerful Force For Our Children
What a great story in todays Examiner. I don't know all I should know about The Boys & Girls Club. What I do know is this. They do an outstanding job with what little they have. They are the best kept secret in the area. More people need to know it only cost $22.50 per week and $15.00 for the school year with hours from 7a.m. to 6:00 p.m. How do they feed kids three meals a day with such a small cost??? Rich Baldwin is right "It's a lot easier to raise a child right than it is to fix an adult." At Christmas time the Leslie Unit had to close down because they ran out of money.

Detective Chris Arnold Is A Home Town Hero
Last week Tom Gentry did a story called Performance makes a difference. When I was reading the story I was not surprised to hear that one of Independence Police Department's newest member of the Investigations Division, Detective Chris Arnold. Thanks to his passion in his heart to be a good detective he and Detective Mike Johann gathered enough probable cause to not only arrest several suspects but solve seven known burglary cases. To add to that it's believed their efforts will help in solving many more burglaries in the metro and will lead to the arrest of more suspects.
Sobriety checkpoint
I was told at the sobriety checkpoint friday night on Noland Rd. we had 15 police cars like the last one but I did not hear how many got arrested. Can anyone tell me?

Graffiti Kids And Fire Works In Independence
The City of Independence had Popsicles in the Rotary Park last night. What a fun time for all the little ones. Today we see Graffiti all over the pump house. Today one of my neighbors by my shop tells me the kids are throwing fire works under cars that drive by. I asked them if they called 911 they told me no because the police will not do anything. We know bottle rockets are all over my parking lot and yes this is normal because people have been brained washed into thinking they can't do anything about it. It has been a great adventure living and working in Independence.
