Police arrested 10 people over the weekend for driving while intoxicated at a sobriety checkpoint in Independence.
The Independence Police Traffic Safety Unit along with officers from the Jackson County Traffic Safety Task Force conducted the checkpoint along northbound Noland Road at Lynn Court in Independence from 11 p.m. Friday until 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
During the hours of operation 692 cars were checked resulting in the arrests of 10 people for outstanding arrest warrants, three for no valid driver’s license, three for liquor violations, one for possession of narcotics and one for endangering the welfare of a child.
Four people were arrested for various other traffic violations.
The checkpoint was staffed by 21 Independence police officers, eight Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputies, four Grain Valley officers and two police officers from Sugar Creek.
Toriano Thanks for that info. Last year we had 10 arrested and only about 71 cars in 6 hours. With 692 cars checked and still 10 arrested thats a wow. Have a Happy and Safe 4th of July with your kids!!! xox
ELISA, I would like your friend Toriano to do a story on people who refuse the breath test and then get off. The root of the problem, people are back on the road after a short time!
Toriano is a great reporter but I am not his boss. The root of the problem is much deeper than people are back on the road after a short time. Substance Abuse and Dependence is a disease with many symptoms like homelessness, drop outs, domestic violence, child abuse, unplanned pregnancy, grandparents raising children, unemployment. The story that you should know about is in Warrensburg. It's called Warrensburg Area Partners In Prevention. Their mission promotes a positive culture in Warrensburg by defining expectations for the responsible sale, service and consumption of alcohol, by providing support for initiatives designed to help reach expectations and by promoting accountability through ongoing evaluation of initiatives. This disease needs all of us as partners in prevention. It brings great pain and loss to many. This is a story we need to get out. Thanks for your blog. Maybe the Examiner will want to do one. xox
If U refuse to blow, U loose ur lic for a year... its the law?
Mminnoe, If you refuse, they take your license but re enstate after you pay off the lawyer. Call around check with any attorney, who handles DWIs. It will cost lots of $$$. This would be a great story of Toriano.
......not true........automatic revocation.......there can be a temporary stay for a bit.........but 99% of those revocations hold...system was redesigned that way......because that IS how they used to beat them in court.....no breathalyzer results.........in fact......if a person doesn't take the breath test...or blood or whatever?.....they can't even get a "hardship license" to drive just to work......the punishment is WORSE.........not taking the test doesn't accomplish anything anymore......the civil revocation is quick too........within weeks.......AND.......it's separate from the criminal charge that they have in court....even IF they beat the criminal charge?.........they're still revoked from the civil revocation...........so whatever attorney fed you that ?.........just wanted to soak somebody.........but of course .......lying is what they do............
eldoggg
M.A.D.D. I saw it on a web page.
......it was an isolated incident.....or they just plain didn't know what they were talking about.......or it might have been some backwoods city...in Kentucky........but I stand on my information..........
