A Sad Story For The City Of Independence At Mt. Washington Funeral Home And Cemetery

 How do you stand at the gates of Hell with destruction and evil all around you? That must be how Mt. Washington must feel. For years they have been standing gracefully holding many of Independence deceased "Loved Ones." They have been so good to so many of us. Now they need the help of our community. A gang has taken over the front and inside of the cemetery. They have no protection! Nothing is sacred to some. Mt. Washington has been through Hell! What can we do to help? What city leader cares enough to do something about it? What happens to them can happen to any of us. May God help us find the answers and leaders to HELP! This is a growing problem that looks like it has become out of control in Independence. xox

This was Gang GRAFFITI call it what you want. I believe we need to address these problems and we need to talk about them.

Here's an article that describes how the KCMO police dept sent someone out to teach residents how to identify and stop gangs. I notice that Independence supposedly has a new gang unit, why can't they do the same thing?

Complacency is the enemy.  Be educated.  Be aware.  Be involved.

TeaPartyKC.com it's my understanding the gang unit of three is not a working unit. I could be wrong but that is what I have been told. They have not started to work as a gang unit. I don't know when they plan to start it.

.....Mt Washington is going to have to hire some serious non donut eating security........manpower.....dogs maybe......cameras........the police aren't going to do anything.........doesn't anybody realize that they're too busy with "higher priority" violence in other parts of  East L.A..........erhh?.....I mean East Independence.......if they can't stop kids at the park what makes you think they can stop graffiti at a historic cemetary?..........it's not even classified as violence.....so it's a lower priority than "Cler-Mont Fight Club".............sorry to be so negative.....but what OTHER conclusion could one draw?...........

Facts as you see them may sound negative, but to me they are facts. I just wish Mr William Rockhill Nelson was still around he was a great visionary force in K.C. I am sure he would not just set around and let our city go down to gangs and violence. He would have used The K.C. Star to fight for us. Instead his beautiful chapel is in a gang infested cemetery that looks like people don't care about any more because everyone is just to busy to care anymore. By the way they have a lot of money in cameras. Thanks for your blog.   xox

Another problem with MtW is about 8 years ago they were bought out by a BIG Co. from out of state, I lost 2 plots?
They are absentee owners now and have very little insterest beside $$$$$$$$$$$$$ in the place???

Explains why they spent millions fixing the place up, providing monuments for people who never had one. Place was a mess before they came on the scene.

IN the 60's my dad bought an entire section, he gave it out to our family I have 14 kin burried there.
In 75 we burried my Dad, at that time the system was an 80 year old lady with an Old Plot map and she would unroll it and show U where things were? Well we had 4 plots and Used one? when my mom passed in 2000 I put her in on top of Dad, what she wanted.  Then I had three, then the new group took over and came to my house and offered to sell me back my own plots??? For the price of internment? I said NO so they informed me I had One plot left?  But the price of internment is more than the plot is worth??? this new group is total Rip off, so don't exspect Much from them??? just FYI.

I go there regularly, no gang markings all over, and what little grafattii gets painted around has always gotten removed quickly. You really overstate things.
