MUDDOGS You May Not Have To Wait For Hell To Freeze Over To Get Help For Your Field!!!

Well Well The Good Old Blogs have worked their magic once again. The City of Independence must LOVE the blogs. It always puts them in such a unique light. I only wish all the readers would join in with us because this is just such a great way to network and to build partnerships. It's so good to see the parks get cleaned up.   xox

Elisa it was great 2 meet u.  My father and I believe you have power 2 get the citys attention.  Iam glad we could show you the old school, backed up to rotary park.  It seems like it should be such an easy fix.  I cannot believe the school that actually teached children has no regard for their safety.  My father and I will continue to do what we can.  Nice to meet you.

Rbrown I just wanted to let you know the name of the school is NOVA. I talked to Cindy in the office. She said so much of that area is city owned and she would make some phone calls about it. I made some calls too. I even told Cindy I would be happy to help with the clean up and maybe the city would too.   xox

RBrown it was great to meet you too! Thanks for taking me to the steps your father has tried to get help for. I had never noticed them before. All of us have the power 2 get the citys attention. The very best way I have found is the blogs because they all read them and the hard core Bloggers know that. I find it strange the school has left the steps get into this bad of condition. What is even stranger to me is the city codes department not being all over this school. It is such an eyesore on top of being a magnet for crime to tell the world we just don't care about our community or our children. Your father is right that is a very unsafe looking stairway that is right next to rotary park. We do need to find help to clean it up and make it safe again. This school is a private school I think. It's parking lot joins North Rock Creek/Korte Elementary. With all the children playing all around that area I would think everyone would have done something about this that your father has called. It was nice to meet you both too. I will join in your efforts to see what we can do. Thanks for blogging like you said you would.   xox

I'm glad you guys achieved what you wanted to achieve in this situation, but I have to ask who is doing it?  Are they going to allow parent help or are they going to continue to kick them out and say this is done on our terms only?

Dragonlady all that has been achieved is the 1960's drinking fountain is gone. All is always done on their terms and to a point I understand that. Only time will tell what will change for the MudDogs. The neat thing is bloggers like you will blog for them if they need it. Thanks You are Awesome!!!   XOX

Same, Same, but you know what as long as it gets fixed, I'm happy and to tell you the truth the blogs have really helped the Muddogs get this issue out there, and we are greatly honored to have all you . There was already someone upset over the New Complex, I do have one Question for them, Correct me if I'm wrong, but they mentioned that we as a team, group could work the concession stand and someway money would be matched by a grant for stuff we wanted to purchase for the parks ect.???? This is where I'm confused, Who will determine where it goes Would we as a team or group get to decide or will P&R decide that, and from we understood what ever is left after paying for the bills at the water park and the new complex and a couple of others ,the baseball fields at Mill Creek was last,  now if I'm wrong someone please tell me, if it wouldnt have been so cold Friday I would of stayed and asked, But like I said I am happy that things (little things) at Mill Creek will hopfully be fixed before next year, and we have a good year, I'll be Praying for this to happen for our Muddogs and we have every chance to give back to our community to make it a better place to live and a place everyone wants to come to. Thank You <<<<<<<< GUYS FOR ALL YOUR HELP>>>>>> WE'll be seeing you!!

Mushmouth12 I have never worked in the park with the program Eric was talking about. That was the first time I had heard about that. It sounded like if you work in one of the nice new parks you could make money to take care of the park your kids play in. That is how I understood it. The Muddogs are lucky to have such a fine group of parents who love them. Now they know they have a blogging family who loves them too!   xox

Was it for working at another park? I must have missed that part of the conversation. I was trying to listen to Eric as well as what was being said behind me. I understood it to be that teams or groups were able to work concessions at the new Independence Entertainment Center. Better known to me as the home of the new Mavericks ice hockey team. I am probably joining two topics into one in my head but that is what I remember.  *I THINK*  Wouldn't be teh 1st time I was wrong and I'd bet money it wouldn't be the last either.

I have to say that I am like you. I was trying to take in all that was being said but to many people were talking it was hard to try and keep up with it all. Sorry.   xox

I'm sure ELISA could answer this better than I can, but I would think P&R would want to "choose" were it goes.  That is the way it usually runs up there.  I certainly wasn't there, so I cannot answer that with a definitive answer, but I'm assuming that is what will happen.  Thanks for being on the blogs, please come back anytime!!!

I understood it as youcan work in the new arena for your organization to raise money. The organization can do what ever they want with that money or usethe grant match pograms with the city to help fix or change things in the parks.

Correct. You can work concessions in the Events Center through the vendor that runs the concessions. You will need a TAX ID # for your group or you cannot work it. This is the one thing that everyone forgets to tell the groups. Vending companies will not be able to pay you without the Not for Profit Tax ID. You can do the same thing at Royals Stadium, Arrowhead, Community America Ballpark, the Kansas Speedway (if you ask early enough). You would make more money for your group at these places as all vendors pay you a percentage of sales through your stand (some will have minimum amounts you would make per person working the stand). Since they serve alcohol everyone must be of age (no kids) and everyone must get a food handlers permit at your cost. One (sometimes two) must be the manager of the group and are responsible for counting money, cheese trays, hot dog buns, cups etc. at the end of the day. The larger your group working the better placement your stand will have. If you don't like working concession stands and dealing with the public this is not for you.
The part of the Matching Grant Program is this.....anyone can attend a Parks Commision Meeting. I believe they are the last Thursday of every month. You can present your project idea here. If they like your project they will agree to match you dollar for dollar on the project. Any building or renovation must pass City Codes before the matching part is met. In other words you get half of the project cost back at completion. They are limited on dollars they can match every year so it is important to get in line. This matching grant is available to any individual or group that wants to improve a city park.
The City will not supply labor for improvements. This has to be part of your plan.
