Graffiti Kids And Fire Works In Independence

The City of Independence had Popsicles in the Rotary Park last night. What a fun time for all the little ones. Today we see Graffiti all over the pump house. Today one of my neighbors by my shop tells me the kids are throwing fire works under cars that drive by. I asked them if they called 911 they told me no because the police will not do anything. We know bottle rockets are all over my parking lot and yes this is normal because people have been brained washed into thinking they can't do anything about it. It has been a great adventure living and working in Independence. The 12th Street signs are popping up. We need to find a way to bring the people of Independence, The City of Independence and The Independence Police Department TOGETHER. We need to all be pulling in the same direction with our courts. All of us need to "Get It." Education and Networking is the missing piece we need.

I am happy to say I was told that good old dad told the boys to take their fire works to the back yard. WOW things can magicly change over night. The thing about these kids is that I would not even care if they used my parking lot to play in when I am closed. Just respect it and the people who drive by. I don't know why that is so hard. It sure has been nice not cleaning up all those bottle rockets. Happy 4th of July to all!!!   xox

Why Elisa I guess I have to hold U to Point in Question???
There couldn’t possibly be bottle rockets in Ur parking lot as
They are not sold in Indep. They areNOT legal???
Why Sandy Patti her self said so at the Council meeting and the
Peacock agreed that they would NOT be shot here???
So how could this Happen? Could it be Some One is NOT playin
By the rules? Were they wearing their eye protection?
Of course the Cops won’t come NOW they   don’t have to?
Fireworks are LEGAL in Indep.
Thank U Mr. Peacock, and the Council…..

When you tell people that no one can do anything this is what we get. I have a parking lot we have to clean up. God help these kids if they throw fire works under a the wrong persons car.

how about a gas leak??????????

I can't do that but it's fun to think about.   xox

Absolutely right ,MMinnoe. The City has claimed they can't enforce a fireworks ban. That delivers a message loud and clear. Shoot anything and all things at will. We, the City, will not enforce this ban. Read that as unwilling to, rather than can not.

How very true!
What's next?  Maybe they should publicly admit that they can't enforce burglary because there's too much of it going on for them to catch. (There is, you know.)
On the afternoon of the 4th, my wife and I were over in Overland Park, driving up around the 119th and Metcalf area.  We passed two digital signs that said "Fireworks are illegal.  OP Police will enforce!"
And later that night, my wife and I went to Sugar Creek to watch their fireworks.  (This is the second year we have done this.  I really, really like the small town atmosphere!)
While we were there, waiting for it to get dark, some adults went to a part of the parking lot that was empty and started shooting off Roman candles.   Within a few minutes, two police officers on 4-wheelers road up and talked with them (as well as a squad car).  They dispersed.  The cops drove off.  My wife said "They'll just start up again in a few minutes."    They DID NOT !!
And I was amazed to observe these guys actually ride their 4-wheelers up to the tree line behind us to try to figure out where... in the residences behind the park... people were shooting off illegal fireworks!
Sugar Creek's not  afraid to enforce it.   Why is Independence?
I would like to say "Thank you" to all of the police officers who do take the time to do the thankless job of enforcing anti-fireworks ordinances in the various cities in our area!   I know it's a thankless job.   But for folks who enjoy kids, dogs, cats, their house, and making the 4th into a FAMILY holiday, we do appreciate what you do to make our day a bit safer and quieter.

Civil, A friend told me in Springfield, Missouri they have a ban on fireworks and they do ENFORCE it.  Do you think this is so?

I suppose so. I have a son who served on the Springfield Police force for 18 years. He should know. I'll ask next time I hear from him.

Been there seen it works!
I lived in Joplin for 10 years
