(Newser) – Tens of thousands of people in dozens of cities around the world turned out last night to honor Michael Jackson with a world record for the number of people performing a single song simultaneously. The Thriller-a-thon, dubbed "Thrill the World," was an attempt to shatter the current record of 13,597—a fraction of the 270,000 projected for last night's effort. Dancers from China to France to Argentina participated, with proceeds from many events going to charity.
"For my father, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson are the real kings," a 10-year-old zombie in Buenos Aires told AFP. "But personally I like Michael more."

"This Is It" was written for the 1991 album Dangerous, but was cut before the album was released; it will be the only new song on a double CD coming later this month. ( Newser) – A popular Australian TV variety program is under fire internationally for a skit that depicted Michael Jackson in whiteface and the rest of the Jackson 5 in blackface. Guest judge Harry Connick Jr., was shocked. “We’ve spent so much time trying to not make black people look like buffoons that when we see something like that we take it really to heart,” he said. The host of Hey Hey It's Saturday apologized on the air, the Times of London reports.
“If I knew that was going to be part of the show I definitely wouldn't have done it,” Connick continued. The performers and host defended the act, saying it was intended for an Australian audience. “I suspect things are probably a bit different in America in terms of what that means,” says the group’s leader. Another member expressed dismay. “The skit has raised the question of are Australians racist,” he tells the Australian. “We're genuinely horrified that our mistake could cause people to think that.”

            (AP) – Michael Jackson's arms were covered with punctures, his face and neck were scarred, and he had tattooed eyebrows and lips, but he wasn't the sickly skeleton of a man portrayed by tabloids, according to his autopsy report. In fact, the Los Angeles County coroner's report shows Jackson was a fairly healthy 50-year-old before he died of an overdose. His 136 pounds were in the acceptable range for a 5-foot-9 man.
His heart was strong with no sign of plaque buildup. And his kidneys and most other major organs were normal. Still, Jackson had health issues: arthritis in the lower spine and some fingers, and mild plaque buildup in his leg arteries. Most serious was his lungs, which the autopsy report said were chronically inflamed and had reduced capacity that might have left him short of breath.

VIENNA (Reuters) – A scheduled Michael Jackson tribute concert in Vienna has been canceled and the event will be staged in Britain next year, Organizers said Friday.

Michael's brother Jermaine Jackson had struggled to get R&B stars Mary J. Blige and Chris Brown and veteran singer Natalie Cole to confirm they could attend, fuelling speculation the gig would be canceled for lack of interest.

"Due to the short time frame it was not possible for many of them to change their schedule so that they could be on stage in Vienna on September 26, therefore we decided, after careful consideration, to change the date of the tribute concert to the summer 2010," he said in the statement issued in London.

World Awards Media, who are promoting the event, said in a joint statement with Jermaine Jackson that the exact venue in Britain and the date would be announced shortly.

Jermaine Jackson said many artists had wanted to join the tribute to his brother and that Britain was a fitting venue as Michael had been planning a series of concerts there.

Organizer Georg Kindel had blamed negative treatment by the Austrian media for the cancellation and told reporters that the tribute would be held at Wembley Stadium in London in June 2010, to mark the first anniversary of Jackson's death.

"The artists were disrespectfully treated as B-list artists by the media," Kindel said, adding that tickets for the Vienna concert will be refunded.

BIG NAMES MISSING

U.S. representatives for Blige, Brown and Cole said on Thursday that none of the three would perform in Vienna, contrary to statements by the concert Organizers.

This left only lesser-known performers such as Sister Sledge, best known for a 30-year-old dance track, "We Are Family."

Vienna city council said earlier Friday it would not support the concert after realizing the show would not bring in as much advertising revenues as initially expected.

Organizers had hoped the city would provide up to 600,000 euros ($876,200) in funding for the event at the capital's 17th century Schoenbrunn palace.

"A cancellation is better than something that is bad and that doesn't interest anyone," said Robert Nuernberger, spokesman for the Vienna tourist board.

Organizers had expected artists to reinterpret Jackson's greatest hits including Billie Jean, Thriller and Bad, in front of an audience of 65,000.

Jackson, one of the world's most successful pop artists, died on June 25 with a mix of prescription medications in his body.

Tickets for the London concert will start at 44 pounds ($73) and sales will begin by December 1.

NEW YORK – La Toya Jackson says her brother Michael looked "absolutely fabulous" when he was laid to rest last week.
In an interview on ABC's "20/20," she tells Barbara Walters that the King of Pop was dressed in white pearl beads and a big gold belt, "like a belt that you win being a boxer."
"His hair was done beautifully, his makeup was done beautifully," she says.
A pair of sunglasses and a white glove were among the items placed in the casket with him.
Michael Jackson's death on June 25 from a fatal combination of drugs has been labeled a homicide by the coroner's office. Prosecutors are still investigating, and no charges have been filed. But La Toya Jackson says she blames her brother's death on "any and everybody" who gave him drugs.
"They're doctors!" she says. "This is going against their license."
She calls her brother "special," explaining that "he wasn't God, but he was certainly God-like. He was the closest thing to a god that I knew."
The interview is scheduled to air Friday at 10 p.m. Eastern.

GLENDALE, Calif. – One month after a lavish public memorial for Michael Jackson, the pop singer's family prepared to inter him privately Thursday in a mausoleum filled with legendary entertainers.
On Wednesday, a judge said Jackson's estate will bear the funeral costs, which were characterized by an attorney as "extraordinary." It was disclosed in court that 12 burial spaces were being purchased at Forest Lawn Glendale, about eight miles north of downtown Los Angeles, but no details were offered on how they would be used.
In a declaration filed Wednesday by Katherine Jackson's attorney, Burt Levitch, stated that the cemetery told him the spaces had to be purchased as a unit and could not be subdivided.
"Mrs. Jackson and her family wish to honor her son by a funeral that seeks to offer solace to his multitude of fans and by which the family also may be comforted," Levitch wrote in the declaration.
A copy of the contract with the cemetery filed with the court has been redacted so that costs and details of Thursday's service have been removed.
Jackson will rest in the cemetery's Great Mausoleum with Hollywood stars including Clark Gable, Jean Harlow and W.C. Fields.
Jackson's funeral won't end the legal drama over his drug-induced death at age 50, which authorities have labeled a homicide. No criminal charges have been filed over his June 25 death, which came on the cusp of London concerts meant to restore Jackson to his once-incandescent stardom.
Last week, coroner's officials said they believed Jackson's death was homicide, and his death certificate has been amended to reflect that. It cites "injection by another" as the fatal injury.
Investigators have said a mix of the powerful anesthetic propofol and another sedative killed the pop singer. The new record lists "acute propofol intoxication" as the main cause of death and "benzodiazepine effect" as another significant contributor.
The certificate does not mention Dr. Conrad Murray, who was Jackson's personal physician. He told detectives that he gave the singer a series of sedatives and propofol to try to help him sleep.
The coroner's determination of homicide makes it easier for prosecutors to seek criminal charges, but does not necessarily mean a crime was committed.
