Cop Tases 10-Year-Old Girl

Arkansas mother suggested stun gun treatment for unruly daughter

NOVEMBER 18--An Arkansas cop tasered an unruly 10-year-old girl after her mother called police to report that the child was crying, screaming, and refusing to go to bed. The tased girl, Kiara Medlock, is about 65 pounds and 4' 6", according to her father. Anthony Medlock, a truck driver who does not live with the fifth grader and her mother, provided TSG with a recent photo of his daughter, which can be seen at right. According to the below Ozark Police Department report, when Officer Dustin Bradshaw arrived at the residence last Thursday, he found the girl "screaming, kicking, and resisting every time her mother tried to touch her." Bradshaw added that, "Her mother told me to tase her if I needed to." After Kiara continued to refuse her mother's instructions, the cop concluded that "there was not going to be a peaceful resolution of the issue." Bradshaw warned the girl that she was "going to jail," but the child continued kicking and crying and resisted his attempt to handcuff her. During the tussle, Kiara "struck me with her legs and feet in the groin, reported Bradshaw, who countered with a brief "stun to her back" with his Taser. The child, not surprisingly, "immediately stopped resisting and was placed into handcuffs. She would not walk on her own and I had to carry her to my police car." Kiara was then transported to a youth shelter. (1 page)

This sounds like a horrible way to treat a child. Would this in any way fall under child abuse. Being an officer of the law which commited the act should not weigh in as a factor. I find the news alarming.

WELCOME DNC!  As you can tell we all find this to be very alarming and very uncalled for.  As for it to fall under child abuse I'm not sure, but one would think it would.  I don't get why to mother called the cops to control and unruly 10 year old when the mother should have been fully capable to handle her own child.  As for the tasing, there was no reason for the cop to tase her in this case.   Last I checked they were the adults and they were capable to handle this child in a different fashion......

I did read your profile on you liking polite blogging, I will inform you were aren't always nice and we do argue on here.  For the most part by the next blog we usually are just fine, lol..........

Dragonlady, thankyou for the welcome. I am glad to know that at least your fine and all of you get past your disagreements. By polite blogging I mostly refer to not name calling, its simply not in good taste as adults. A good discussion des have passion, but no need in anyone putting others down in the process.
I still believe the above case is child abuse if we consider a parent would be immediately arrested should a taser be used in child discipline under the same circumstances when no officer of the law is present.
Have a good Thanksgiving dragonlady. Dont over eat.

DNC, I don't want to misrepresent myself by no means....  I'm not to well liked on here for the fact that I do speak my mind and not beat around the bush......  I, for one, am in the middle of all flamings for that reason.  If I see someone grabbing my friend bloggers I have no problem with putting them in the middle of the circle of flames.  I have a habit of roasting very well.  The point I was making most of us get along by the next blog, but there are a few that decide to continue, stalk, prey and grab from blog to blog.

As for the tasing case yes you make a very valid point, but since it was an officer of the law that did it, no charges will be brought against the officer.  Cops have a habit of protecting their own and slamming everyone else for the same things they choose to do...  Cops are a big brotherhood and they will go so far to protect their own that no actual victim wins.....

You have a wonderful Thanksgiving too DNC...  Don't worry, if I over eat it is no big problem I could use the weight gain anyways........  :)

.....I don't know why you always say "you're not well liked on here"............you are............Light My Fire is gooooooooooooooooooooooooooone...........a victim of her own prejudice and cowardice........( is that slander or truth Pete?)...........

Oh, now come on Eldoggg, most of us aren't well liked on here for having a different opinion you know that!  WOW, you just had to rehash the flaming and demise of LMF didn't you........  Grant it, I do love sweet VICTORY!  No, actually we have run into a few on here and most of them let me know I'm unclassy and boastful.  We also get told we are very brutal, oh, enjoy your blogging time with us DNC!  HA... LOL.......

eldogggg, such a nice way to speak to a lady.    Soooo coooooollll!

.......you don't even KNOW Light My Fire..............you have NO idea if what I said was true or not................turns out she was on the noon news AND in the paper..............you sound like "dnc" here......you HAVE to learn to keep the characters straight............see one of the problems with the "little pretend game?"..........you HAVE to remember what EACH character KNOWS about the blogs..................ROFLMDAO..........I DO like how quickly you picked up MY version of ROFL after only 43 minutes................

.....I referred to LMF as a "her"............

Hey E File, you speak of a lady on here, I just have one question....  Where do you see a lady at?  I guess I missed that memo that there is a lady on here!  lol......

I wonder what cop couldn't handcuff a kid without tasing them. My daughter is 10 and I guarantee you I could handcuff her against her will.

I'm also wondering what mother tells a cop it's ok to tase her daughter.

DW, I agree with you.  She is 10 years old and the officer was in a better advantage to tackle her and cuff her the same as the mother.  There was no need to tase a child, there was no excuse for it and it should have never happened.  I have a leg I can barely walk on, but I guarantee I would have been able to take down my  11 or 8 year old without a tasing incident.....  I hope that child doesn't have any adverse reaction to being tased.....  If a cop even threatened to tase my daughter I promise you I would go to jail for assualt and battery on an officer and not have any guilt against it......

The mother is just as much to blame as the cop is. She called the cops because her child was unruly and then ok'd him to taser her. Where were the adults in this case because it's pretty obvious there wasn't any at the house.

DW, I didn't say the mother isn't wrong, I just said the cop should have known better.... It is a 10 year old child, no child should be tased at all, regardless of what they have done....  The mother should have never called the cops unless she felt her life was in danger, and from what I read that wasn't the case....   Parents shouldn't leave it to a cop to correct their children unless they hav e been arrested for something horrible like murder, armed criminal action, etc.....  I agree with you the mother acted just as much like a child as the child was acting......  Depending on the situation if your child is out of control to the point of bodily harm to themselves or others then I could see calling the cops, but tasing a child, I just don't see any reason for it......  Unless, they are holding a weapon and is swinging it, but even then I don't know....  DW, maybe I'm thinking wrong in this, but I just don't see any justification for the action at all...............

I think you misunderstood me, I was saying that both the cop and the mother were just as much to blame. The mother should have never called the cops and then told them that it was ok to tase her daughter and the cop who showed up should have never tased the child.

There wasn't any justification in any actions taken that day.

DW, you are very correct there was NO justification for what happened that day whatsoever.......  The only time a child should be tased and even them I'm rocky on it is if the child poses a major threat....  Think about it if a child is coming at you with a gun or a knife and you are a cop they would much rather tase you than kill you!

Do you think the police officer would have tased her if she hadn't kicked him in the groin?  I think probably not.  A child should never,  ever be tased but he more than likely over reacted to her kicking him.

I'm sorry FD, I don't feel the same way...  I think if a child is coming at a person with a deadly weapon of either a knife or gun and that is one of two options, I would prefer to see a child be tased than killed.   No, he should of never tased this child for kicking him in the groin, I whole heartedly agree with that and I don't feel the mother was justified in calling the police or telling him it was okay...

To think the Cop couldn't control a ten year old girl is sort of absurd? But some times to control some one, U put Ur hands on them and leave marks and He may have thought in the end a quick buzz would be less harmful??? It did say it worked? In the end she may have received less harm???
