...ANOTHER WINNER.......Cash for Clunkers going toward GAS GUZZLERS????.......
......maybe we can get the guru jester behind THIS program to help advise the "health care czar"......I notice the new appointee by Barry for "surgeon general" has been working for ANOTHER king lately......."BURGER KING"......as a fast food advisor.......ROFL..........oy vey........
....here is a condensed article about yet ANOTHER well thought out program.......another winner.......with YOUR money.......
Newser Summary) – The Obama administration is hyping the cash-for-clunkers program as a chance for Americans to buy more fuel efficient cars, but not all buyers are going greener. Bulky SUVs and even trucks can be purchased with the $3 billion government subsidies, reports AP. Washington is refusing to release detailed records of the clunkers program, but one auto website has posted data showing buyers are gravitating toward gas guzzlers.
To qualify for the subsidy buyers only need to have a comparable vehicle that gets 2 mpg less than a new purchase, which can't cost over $45,000—lax enough rules to make a fuel-swallowing BMW X3 eligible. In Miami, one dealer said that "Cash for Clunkers is definitely generating traffic" for his biggest, most inefficient vehicles. He has sold three Cadillac SRXs, which get only 18 mpg, and is even hoping to move some Hummers.

.............well the results are in ...............and it AIN'T pretty.............unless your name is F O R D .......don't get me wrong.......I love F-150's............in fact?...........apparantly I love them SO much that I helped my neighbors buy themselves NEW ones................there's nothing more comforting than a guy in a $350,000 house getting a "helping hand" from Uncle Obama to help him buy a new truck...............
( Newser) – Think most who traded in a clunker under the government’s fuel-efficiency incentive program are now driving a hybrid? Guess again: The most common swap was an old, gas-guzzling pickup for a new, just-slightly-less-gas-guzzling pickup, AP analysis finds. Ford’s F150 is a prime example—it gets 1-3 mpg more than the 15-17 of older models, and those who traded ‘em in were 17 times more likely to get a new F150 than a Toyota Prius.
"If we're looking for the environmental story here, we're going to be disappointed," an analyst at Edmunds.com. "It might have started out from the perspective of improving the environment, but it got detoured as a way to stimulate the economy."

The CARS Act applies to new vehicles. Thus, used vehicles do not qualify under the program.
The new vehicle must have a manufacturer's suggested retail price of not more than $45,000. That price appears on the window sticker on new vehicles. The new vehicle must also achieve minimum combined fuel economy levels. For passenger automobiles, the new vehicle must have a combined fuel economy value of at least 22 miles per gallon. For category 1 trucks, the new vehicle must have a combined fuel economy value of at least 18 miles per gallon. For category 2 trucks, the new vehicle must have a combined fuel economy value of at least 15 miles per gallon. Category 3 trucks have no minimum fuel economy requirement; however, there are special requirements that apply to the purchase of category 3 vehicles.
As noted above, the CARS Act also requires that NHTSA make available on an Internet website a comprehensive list of new vehicles that meet the requirements of the program. Until that information is posted on the program's website, consumers may determine whether a new vehicle meets the fuel economy requirements of the program in two ways. First, the combined fuel economy of a new vehicle will be posted under the heading "Combined Fuel Economy" on the window sticker ("Monroney label") of a new vehicle. Second, you may also find the combined fuel economy value of a new vehicle by visiting http://www.fueleconomy.gov/cars and searching for their vehicle to find its combined fuel economy value. When searching that website, consumers will need to know their vehicle's model year, make, model, engine size, and transmission type.

Careful what to think here.
I think some dealers are being not so legit, there should be requirements for what cars.
Certainly this isn't the norm.
Hey minnesota what's up? I'm glad you are back on here and actually putting your opinion out, kind of missed you!
......ROFL.......NOBODY said there were'nt gas saving cars sold.......nor did the article claim that the guzzlers were in the top TEN.......the POINT WAS that NO guzzlers should be able to be purchased with OUR money.......I can feel good about MY tax dollars going to help somebody buy a HUMMER or a nice Cadillac?.......there should have been MORE thought and planning given to THIS as well as other issues of wasting cars that could well be used by the poor and charities instead of crushing them............good morning minnesota girl..........am I still "classy & well spoken?".........ROFL..........but thanks for profiling what the article WASN'T talking about anyway...........are you saying that the article I posted from the Associated Press WASN'T true?.........one HAS to wonder WHY Washington is REFUSING to release details of this program.......you know......how they tried to hide the "Statue of Liberty Air Force One" photo op?..........$350,000?........till pressured........where o where is the "transparency" o Barry?........

My 1995 F-150 was getting maybe 9-10 mpg yesterday when I had to run all over town multiple times, with the air conditioning on, of course.
I looked at the gas guage and sighed. But then I realized: I don't have a car payment. <grin!>
........you can do a lot of repairs and buy a LOT of gas for $35,000.00...........the ONLY way to get your money's worth out of a vehicle is to DRIVE it as long as it is possible.......before expenditures make it fiscally irresponsible............

My guess is a lot of the clunkers are not the primary auto. How many work trucks are being traded to get the wife a new car? Then the husband trades the wife's old car and on a new pickup. There may be no change in mileage but they received $4500 for the old pickup. How many college kids SUV gets traded for the mother a new car and then they buy the kid another SUV? Five years ago I sold my old hunting truck for $750 and my wife bought a new car the same year. It would have been real easy to have traded my hunting truck on her new car.
.......that must be WHY they call you Reason..............I think you're DEAD on...........I never thought of THAT angle.......
