I don't know why the photographer didn't do anything about it. Warning ths pictures are pretty graphic:

Bear Attack in Churchill , Manitoba , Canada .
These are pictures of an actual polar bear attack.
The pictures were taken while people watched and could do nothing to stop the attack!
Reports from the local newspaper say that the victim will make a full recovery.

Renting in Independence

I'm putting the posts here about renting here in Independence because the Mt. Washington thread is getting a little skinny on the posts.

So here they are:

Insurer refuses to cover baby, says he’s ‘too fat’

This is what I think needs regulating. I don't have problems with insurance companies charging more for people who are obese, just like they do smokers, but come on, a 4 month old baby? Aren't babies supposed to be fat?

Haunted Tours on the Square

Halloween is one of my favorite happenings. I know it's not a holiday, but my family treats it like one. I noticed today that they are again doint the Haunted Tours on the Square Friday's in October. Has anybody gone on one? It seemed a little steep at 18 bucks a person or 11 if you're a youngster. For that you get a tour of the jail and a ride on the wagon.

Just curious if it was worth it or not.

This guy has figured out the real reason for the breakdown of marriages in the US

And he's petitioning for a bill to fix it.

Some people just don't get it and then there's some that do

Regardless of what you think of the U.S.'s involvement in Afghanistan or Iraq, there's people who have their priorities straight and others that don't. Check out what happened on the other side of the state.

Gene Hoppe has been found not guilty

I wonder if that means he will come back this fall. I know all of my kids liked him as a teacher and thought this was bogus. One of them told me that the girl who started this was a troublemaker to begin with.

Anyway, I'm happy he was found not guilty and I hope this will make him think twice before engaging in this kind of behavior if he does come back. Of course, I believe he could go ahead and retire now if he wanted to.

Economy spells woe for Independence School District

Hmmm....does this come as any surprise to anybody? I'm sure there are all sorts of factors such as hardly any police which leads a bad element to come to town and people that did own homes and pay their taxes to move to another city that does have police.

What about the arena and 39th Street? All those business pay sales tax to the city, but they pay their property taxes to Lees Summit and Blue Springs. Why aren't we getting businesses in to the part of town that pays property taxes to the Independence School District?

Congrats to my photographer

My wife took the pictures on the front page of the Examiner today and I just wanted to congratulate her on winning this week.

Oh if you only knew what it's like to live with her and her camera.

Funny story about the foreclosures in Independence

So my wife and I bought a house here in Independence 2 years ago that was an ARM loan. Yea yea, we shouldn't have gotten it whatever we did anyway. We were told at the time that nobody ever stays in ARM's they refinance long before the ARM is due what not so forth don't worry about it.

Well last year was kinda tough, but we kept our payments current and we tried to refinance a couple of times, but they either wanted a ton of money to do it, one bank told us $30,000, or they said the price of our house dropped below what we originally financed it at.

Once again the Bush administration gives the finger to the USA

You'd think that after 8 years of this, he would come up with something decent his last 3 months.

Here is a funny that I think is appropriate

Whats up with ISD sports parents?

So I have school age kids and they play sports. I'm going to all these sporting events and very few parents are showing up for them. I was at Chrisman tonight and a soccer game was going on and there were more players on the field than there were people in the stands. Same way with the Truman/Raytown football game last week, the stands were almost empty.

Do parents not care what their kids are doing anymore? Is the 2 or 3 bucks to get in putting a hardship on the grocery bill this week? Do they only show up for a sure win?
