Is Indep and surrounding cities eligible for Barry Buck$ for law enforcement?

I heard on the radio The president is making $1 billion available for law enforcement due to the economy and municipalities declining resources. They didn't go into to the specifics, anyone heard anything definitive?

Accordig to Sen. McCaskill's web site, Independence is slated to receive $533,000. It is to be used to hire entry level full time sworn officers or to rehire sworn officers subject to lay-off.. They just reported on the news that Independence is getting more than $500,000 from the stimulus to hire officers; this is the first I've heard of it. Wonder why no one at City Hall has released this. Kansas City is going to be able to hire their students at the Police Academy immediately after they graduate from the stimulus money they are receiving.

How about that. Independence gets $534,000 for 3 officers for 3 years and KC gets $200M to weatherize and make more energy efficient a bunch of houses on Prospect. Sounds fair to me.

...civil....you have to ask yourself WHY that is.........who will benefit from "Barry Buck$" in KC......... and weatherization contracts.........I saw one company on TV .........and the three new employees.............gushing about how great it was...........hard for me to process how blowing insulation is going to help houses with blue tarps and bricks on the roof.......big holes........old windows that have had no care for 50 years........there are exceptions to this rule.....but generally?...........the condition of the neighborhoods speak for themselves.......a novel idea though......sounds "green" in Washington D.C.................then you have Hyde Park and neighborhoods that can well pay for their own stuff..........THIS JUST IN : FORBES LISTS KANSAS CITY #1 in ABANDONMENT.....IN THE COUNTRY.........from abandonded homes and apartments..........let's sink $200,000,000.00 in Chinese borrowed money on weatherization for KC's blighted neighborhoods......abandoned homes and apartments..............pure genius Obama...........if we're gonna blow trillions of dollars we DON'T have.....borrowing from China.......why didn't they split the stimulus up amongst Americans with citizenship........let us spend it and REALLY get stimulated.......better than just a few pocketing the cash...from goofy @ss projects..........ohhh......I'm foamin again............
KC has a plan through the Stimulas Package money where they can obtain paint to paint their houses free. The paint is good paint, it is Sherman Williams. I am sure it comes with certain relaxed requirements.
.........well that is nice.......but I painted a couple houses...one took 40 hours...the other 83 hours........the paint is the CHEAP lart of the equation........a couple hundred bucks............but maybe it will help somehow..........many estimates on houses can run 2-3500 dollars......so if they don't have the money to buy paint?............it will help many private painters maybe.............make a little more money..............becaus they have the homeowners GET the paint.,......then buy the paint from the homeowner for half price.........like a food stamp transaction.........then the homeowner has turned thier Obama stimulus into some money for booze and smokes.............maybe even a little crack.............ahhh.......but this would never happen in the inner city...............what AM I thinking.............anytime where there is a free handout?.......it gets abused............that's how humans are.....we're like goldfish who eat their comrades when they're sick and weak...........we're opportunists...........

........you can usually find REAL deals on paint if you are flexible on color.........by leaving your # with a few paint stores...on closeout colors or paints that were mixed "special" and not picked up for one reason or the other.....I HATE to pay retail...........but if you wait?...........and had the right connection?...........I'm betting this program doesn't go back and check the houses......they MIGHT.........then there would have to be a time requirement too.......I dont' have the details........the program might be run by an "all knowing czar".........ROFL...........I do know this......if there's a way for people to turn something into cash?.....they WILL find it.......and the goods will have to be at a reduced rate..............
This as Cleaver's contribution to the pork barrel. Says its for poor folks. I got news for him. I suspect some of those folks are beter off than a lot of my neighbors. I don't see any handout from Cleaver out here in honkey town.

Yes, on DrudgeReport.com today it's reported that the Chinese are getting a bit testy with us over our spending (er, printing) habits, and the dollar has fallen to an all-year low. When it all hits the fan, people will be looking back at how things are today as the good ol days. It will be VERY ugly.

concerning O's spending habits?......and the value of our dollar?......I already have MY wheelbarrow ready........so I can go to the grocery store........was it Venezuala or Argentina a few tears back that you needed a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread.........
....TeaParty......my fave is when "Timothy the Treasurer" spoke to a Chinese university on his first oversea assignment.......he assured the Chinese student body to "not worry their little heads......that everything was under control with the U.S. borrowing money from China........that it was ALL good"......and the ENTIRE student body burst out laughing..........apparantly THEY weren't buying what the Obama admistration was selling either............ROFL........... ha ha ha
I find it interesting that you complain about Obama spending money, yet you want Independence to raise taxes and spend money. Other than the programs, what's the difference?
.........dwood87......I don't WANT Independence to raise taxes and spend money........it's the lesser of the available evils.........$500,000 is great but a drop in the bucket for what they need.......look up and see how long it's been since Independence has raised property taxes.........sure they don't have to have th emoney right thissecond...with a special election.........but they're gonna get it one way or the other......you can BET on that.....thi sway there iS a chance that 40% of ther increase might be paid by outside citizens.........I haven't had the police do anything special for me in 50 years.........don't remember ever having to call them out to my house.....there are no gangs where I live.....no graffitti.........why should I care really........I could just as easilty move back to Lee's Summit where yOU say they have a higher quality of life..........and truthfully?........as a whoe?...........I can't disagree with you............why should I care about more funding through a special election?.....it's not going to benefit me directly........I rarely see a police car in my neighborhood.......unless they're at QT........standing around.........so maybe you're right......maybe I should just keep my $40 and say "screw it".............let Independence raise the funds from raising property taxes......and I'll just move back to Lee's Summit.......and blog from there......like some of the other bloggers......who blog here..........because they USED to live here...................hoo ahh.............
Glad to hear you've never been affected by crime in this city. We never were either until our boy was murdered. We also never imagined that the IPD was capable of treating a human being the way they did my son. Their inaction has shattered any respect I ever had for them. I certainly don't want more of the same kind of officers already on the force. I think a lot of them need to be terminated and replaced with high quality officers who know the meaning of the oath to protect and serve. And before anyone says who would I call if I needed help, I say I will protect myself using any means necessary before I would call the IPD. After all I've seen and heard over the last 20 months and 19 days, I know I'm on my own anyway. They don't give two s**ts about my safety, or anyone else's for that matter. It's a proven fact.

Your Sons story needs to be addressed. I have to say as a Mother we need answers. What happened to your Son could happen to any of our Sons. It's not acceptable because this one tragedy has put the entire IPD in a very bad light to a lot of people. I am sorry for your broken heart that words could never heal. I pray that the full truth comes out for the safety and sake of all. People make tragic mistakes every day and foolish ones that they must live with every day of their life. I have to believe if we could turn back the hands of time the day your Son lost his life and everyone there would get a second chance don't you think they would give anything to change the out come of that day? I just truly believe they would and I pray someday your heart will see actions that will show that to be true. We have a lot of Good Men and Women in the IPD. It's unfair they get all lumped together. I do understand how you feel as you do. Please know my prayers are with you. xox

His angle is to be the guardian of the blog and bark when he sees fit and why should he run out of steam. That is his angle and yes it is humanly possible if you put your mind to it, I do it all the time but I don't always post! The same as a lot of people on here do if "we don't have jobs."
