When I was in the service some 50 years ago, I enlisted into the Army Security Agency which was rolled into the National Security Agency (NSA). My duties in this organization required that I have a top secret code word security clearance. It took a year and a half to get it and I was a clean whistle. I recall MP's entering our work area and carting people out because it was discovered they had direct relatives overseas.
Now the question. As Presiident, Obama would require a higher security clearance. How can he obtain it? We know he once used hard drugs by his own admission. We know he purchased his house from a known felon. We know he has direct relatives in Kenya, and we suspicion that he did associate with an unrepentant domestic terrorist. Considering all this, how in the world can he receive the security clearance required of the President of the United States? Any one of these problems would have booted me out of NSA before I was ever in it. Has the U.S. so relaxed its security requirements that these types of flaws in ones background no longer matter? If so,it is no wonder we have security leaks almost on a daily basis.

Obama's father is dead and as far as I've read, he's never had any dealings with his father's side of the family. Was the guy a known felon when he bought his house? I don't even know if the guy he bought the house from or through is a felon or if it's the same rumor that says Obama is a muslim. Did Obama know about Ayers past? It seems to me that people are trying to make him guilty by association. I don't know everybody that I've ever went to school with, lived around, served in the military with, none of that stuff. I guess if one of them shows up as a terrorist then I'm guilty as well.
Who cares if they used hard drugs on the past. Are they using drugs now? That is pretty easy to prove.
The security clearance I got in the military, took them about a week to approve. I had a friend who was in the nuclear missile silos and his security clearance took almost a month. I'm sure that Obama's background has been checked, rechecked, and rechecked again by our government.
So let's quit talking about silly stuff like where he's a muslim or his father is an Arab and let's stick to their proposed policies please.
You are correct in that things change in 50 years. That is the point of my post. Have we laxed up too much on our security concerns? Obama does have a half brother in Kenya. The people I saw removed because of relatives overseas had no contact with those relatives either but they still were perceived as a means of presuring the American. There is no doubt that Tony Rezko is a felon and was under investigation at the time of the house transaction. People who have used hard drugs are always in danger of backsliding. Don't you find it interesting that if Obama was applying to be a police officer he would be rejected because of his past? A person can be the President of the United States but he would be deemed unfit to wear a badge? This applies to Bush as well. His past DUI would have disqualified him from serving on most police forces. I did not claim here that Obama knew of Ayers past.
Nor did I say anything about his religion or parentage. I am simply concerned that the security of our nation can be jeipordized, not necessarily by Obama, but by others who might slip through the cracks due to lax background checks.
It eems in the past decade a classified document has shown up on the front page of the New York Times almost weekly. Due to sloppy work when vetting an individual for a security clearance? I don't know but I do care. Do you?.
we were in a cold war with the Russians who were sending spies to the United States just like we were sending spies to Russia. I can vouch that security checks are still pretty tough, I'm going through one right now and they do want to know about people that you might be related to overseas, credit history, job history, housing history, school history, people you have associated with all that kind of thing.
I have step siblings right here in the US that I don't talk to, do you really think that having a half brother in Kenya means you're a security risk because he would do something for that half brother that would put the US in jeopardy?
Do you honestly think Obama is gonna do hard drugs in the White House? Somehow that he was addicted to drugs and is gonna backslide back into that lifestyle while he's President?
I have quite a few police buddies and knowing what I know about their past, Obama would be a police officer with no issues. I don't know of any police force that will reject you based on drugs UNLESS you have a drug conviction that wasn't possession. As far as anything else you've brought up, that's happenstance stuff that wouldn't even show up in a background check because it doesn't matter.
And Bush just refused to answer any of his drug past. At least Obama is being honest about that.

How on earth does Dubya Bush get a clearance, given his ties to so many Saudis and the Bin Ladens? His dad and the bin Ladens were in business together, having a business conference, in fact, on the morning of September 11, 2001.

Don't forget that when Dubya Bush was running for president, he was campaigning around the country in an Enron jet!
I don't know the facts of your concerns, and any how the question involves Obama, not Bush. If you have deep concerns about Bush's security clearance I would suggest you check something other than a leftwing anti-Bush blog for information.
I'm just saying you're worrying too much about things involving Obama that didn't bother you a bit about Dubya. If you've been okay with Dubya's security creditials and relationships with crooks and terrorists, Obama shouldn't cause you that much worry at all. If the right-wing propaganda you're referring to about Obama causes you to vote for McCain, we're just in for another four years that will be like the last eight. That's too bad, because the future was supposed to be better than this.

Comes from the same party that said Kerry didn't do any of the things he did when he served in Vietnam. That he wasn't a true American hero. I even read an article today saying that a person wouldn't vote for Obama because his name didn't sound American. Makes ya wonder who's voting for McCain when people say stuff like that.
And here they come again trying to win a campaign of lies and deceit instead of what they should be concentrating on and that's what are the plans of these men to make this a better country for all Americans.
When I was watching the debates on CNN, I noticed that the graphr for the undecided voters went up when McCain and Obama were talking about what they wanted to do and as soon as either one of them started to talk bad about the other one, the graph went down.
How hard is it to figure out that making up rumors and guilty by associations and outright lies isn't good for the country?
