In his recent newsletter Rep. Dougherty (district 53) has a pic of the Arch. drawing of the combined Police and Fire building planned for East Independence. Good looking structure.

This meeting was 10 months ago. This event should be put in the past. If this is all you have against Elise and to put her down in the manner that you have you dont have much to go on. I dont have to defend her because her heart is in the right places. She is for the residents and business of Independence.

...susquehanna.....it's in the past...you're about 4 days late.......but thanks for showing up......it would have only been brought up once if ithe incident hadn't have been denied in the first place....... and then brought up by you to AGAIN.........to defend her.......I believe she believes what in what she is doing......just because someone BELIEVE'S in something doesn't make it good for the community......this isn't a "knife fight"......just a blog.....where people use "words" to express THEIR opinions.......if they can't handle the heat they should get out of the kitchen.....I posted early on about "if the blogging was too harsh.....if we should make it more like British "high tea".....the overwhelming consensus was that it is fine the way it is.......so if spilling a little truth about an event makes somebody uncomfortable....if it ruins the moment........I'm sorry..................again...... according to Elisa the event NEVER happened....so I'm at a loss what you're talking about......let's talk about the excessive dog parks and water fountains here in the "Emerald City"............maybe shut them all down......use the money to hire an extra couple cops........make the cats , birds , squirrels and rabbits happy...............what kind of a filthy rich city is this?......with dog parks and water fountains.......I'm guessing Kansas City would never have had as many fountains as Rome if certain people had their way.......we could still be a "cowtown".............maybe more like "Dodge City" , Kansas.............

I run this neighborhood watch meeting and Elisa asked our city council member Lucy young a question and Elisa wasn't satisfied with the answer the two ladies had a few words. Lucy asked Elisa if she would like to go outside to discuss the matter away from the meeting. Elisa said it didn't matter and left on her own and wasn't asked to leave the meeting. She also wasn't disrupting the meeting in any way. I want elise at all my meetings and I believe in her input of our neighborhood watch program. Tina Wyatt-Rockers Susquehanna neighborhood watch

Elisa was told if she couldn't settle down that she would have to take it outside"......settle down from what?......why would somebody who was "just having a few words" have to "take it outside?"..........your version is just a "spin zone" version of mine.........." a few words?".......... ha ha ha..........you could use that to describe any shouting match..........I don't know why you're coming to Elisa's defense........according to her?......it never happened anyhow.................I said EXACTLY what you did.........that she was going to have to take it outside if she couldn't settle down...........nobody EVER said thet "Elisa wasn't welcome in your meetings..........where DO you people come up with this stuff?...................are you trying to tell me that Elisa's voice wasn't raised?.........we just skimmed around that didn't we ?............."birds of a feather"................Elisa left on her own?.......why would she leave if there were no altercation?......nobody SAID she was removed............THANK YOU so much for documenting my post from earlier.....that was vehemently DENIED by Elisa.......and you RUN the meeting....so that's about as good of a source as I could hope to have........thanks again..............guess Elisa had "selective memory".............

I'm posting here because the thread below is too skinny.
I never said poor people don't drive crappy cars. And I never said only wealthy people ride the busses. I sure didn't say that the swimming pool in Raytown was nasty either. In fact, my family enjoys swimming over there a few times a year. But it seems you enjoy putting words in my blog that I never said.
If this tax passes, Independence will have a higher tax rate than Lee's Summit and Blue Springs. So why can Lee's Summit and Blue Springs get by on the tax rate they have and Independenc can't? Making public comments that 40% of the tax is going to be paid by somebody else sure endears our city to surrounding cities doesn't it? Once we get our sales tax the highest in the area, I'm sure everybody will be flocking to Independence to buy stuff.
I find your comments interesting because you go from one extreme to the other. I know taxes are necessary for our society, but I would like it if my taxes were used in a responsible manner and I knew what they were being used for. I wouldn't hand over a blank check to anybody and tell them to just fill in the amount I owe, but that complacency seems to be what people do when it comes to taxes. My point hasn't necessarily been about that people can't afford a 3/8 cent sales tax. My point is about why should we have a special tax for something that should have been paid for in the first place. You keep bringing up dog parks and fountains and I'm with you on that. Why do we have those if we can't protect the people visiting those places. Is Independence just going to hold elections for special taxes on all sorts of issues now? I would like to have sidewalks in my neighborhood so my kids don't walk in the street to get to the school bus. Maybe we should have a special sidewalk tax for that.
Streets, Fire, and police should come first period (not necessarily in that order) then everything else. If they want more revenue, then they should make Independence attractive to businesses. And the way you make that happen is you keep your population feel safe so that they stay in Independence and the businesses will come without any TIF's or whatever else. The reason Blue Springs, Lee's Summit, and Overland Park are doing so well is because of that very reason.

.........I AGREE WITH YOU dwood87.............don't fall over.........evrything you said in this post IS correct.......except my posts about dog parks and fountains were "tongue in cheek".......referring to Elisa's previous ridiculous remarks about our dog parks and fountains......how unnecessary they were.........THEY SHOULD NOT need a special election for a special tax for a necessity item..........but it's past that point..........yes they dropped the ball...............but I still think it's the lesser of upcoming options and evils........that's all............

I don't have selective memory the story was so off the truth I just had no idea what Lucy and you guys were even talking about. One little fact that may have been forgotten was that Captain Ken Bergman of Independence was also at that little meeting that night. I still stand my ground I was not asked to leave that night.

No little fish your gal tells stories I don't want to be part of. I read between the lines and actions speak louder than words to me. Little fish lip service don't get anything done. You may think what you want but I know the truth about that meeting. I was very tired that night. I had spent nights out in my car because of all the crime I was dealing with. TV 41 was my voice. I had all my air conditioners tore up two times on on my roof with in a week. The last thing in the world that I wanted to do was to be in the same room with the city officials that made my stomach feel sick. I have had enough. Blog on.

I have the best Cops in town right here! They do their part and I do mine. All of us know it"s everyman for himself. We are all on our own. Just us and our Creator. With that said I am doing fine on my little corner I have not had to make any police reports for some time now. Thanks for caring! xox

What blog did I talk about the FOP? I don't smoke and I don't have basic cable at my home. I work 7 happy days a week and I have cut all that I can. The children around my shop have parents that have a hard time feeding them but I know you will have some smart remark about them. Eldoggg you may never know how to wrap your mind around how to be humble but I see it in the eyes of the families that I serve. I don't find you funny or truthful.
.Elisa.......the reference of cutting cartons of cigarettes and cable sefvices had NOTHING at all to do with YOU..........the other day you were making the point that this tax would hurt lower income people the most.......and my observation was as expressed.......from what I see...........I couldn't care less if you find me funny or truthful..........why would I care?..........I don't find YOU truthful or funny either....... ha ha ha.........the families that you serve?.........are you a public official?...........or are you talking about "when you ring them up at your store?"..........how may purchases at your store are over $300.........you're trying to tell me that they can spend $300 in your store and they can't afford another $1?.............maybe a better move for all these grossly unhappy citizens would be to relocate to another city with a lower sales tax........if it passes? .........we'll hear ENDLESS complaining from you........if it fails?.........we'll hear ENDLESS praise of yourself and "back patting"..........I'm personally looking forward to it.............

This knife cuts both ways. Just because somebody drives up in a 25 dollar car doesn't mean they're poor. Before I bought my used car last year, I was driving a 20 year old car that looked like it was going to fall apart. It had been wrecked, the windows leaked, the paint was faded, all sorts of stuff. I don't consider myself poor then nor now, I just liked that car. And just because a kid rides a bus from the inner city talking on the phone doesn't mean they're poor as well. It's not necessarily their phone they're talking on. Their parents could be working and that's the only way they could get to the pool.
However, there are a lot of people who are poor that have cable, smoking up a storm, and get their nails done every week.
........."just because they drive a $25 car doesn't mean they're poor?..........ROFL......let me explain something to you .........NOBODY drives a $25 car in America because they WANT to......... ha ha ha...............of course you are the exception.......I expected somebody to come back with that counterpoint.......go down to the inner city and observe the $30,000 homes with $30,000 cars parked in the driveway........car more important than the digs..............not the exception.....the rule..........IF they can pull it off.............and yes.....I'm sure a lot of wealthy kids form the inner city come to the neighboring pool in anotherr city on a big yellow school bus.....with the boy's club or YMCA or whatever.....but believe whatever you want..........but nobody drives old beater cars unless that's all they can afford........even the lower income people have a hundred choices to go get screwed at "We Finance" lots....that cater to "bad credit" or "pay by the week".......if what I said wasn't true?.....about people's love affir with decent cars?........these "rip off" places wouldn't be able to exist.........with their ridiculous interest rates and payments............but if you want to believe that people driving $25 cars aren't lower income............then OK............you know what I said is true..............I'm cool with that..........and you're right............I've seen the nail shops flourishing in poor neighborhoods too......I don't fault them or anybody for having a few luxuries...it makes life more tolerable.......my point is that if the lower income people can afford cell phones , cable , smokes and soda?.............an extra 3/8 cent on every Big Gup isn't gonna kill them.........for the police that THEY desperately need to keep them safe..........but here we are again.........circular logic..................back to square one............why DO we bother?..........

I've actually worked in the inner city and you aren't going to see houses where the car is worth more than the house.
Nobody is talking about wealthy kids taking the bus, they'd have their own cars, but just because you're on a yellow bus, that doesn't make you poor. I've talkd about my situation and my wife would take the bus to work if it was feasible,, but that doesn't make us poor. The only reason she doesn't is because of the 2.5 hour trip each way.
I know plenty of people who could afford a car payment if they chose to, but they're hanging on to their older cars. And they're not lower income.
You're stereotyping poor people which isn't helping your case any.
......I worked in the inner city for around 15 years.......you have your observations......I have mine......you're right......no lower income people drive $25.......usually only middle class..........mostly wealthy kids ride the yellow bus to Raytown (which ain't no Emerald City) to go to the nasty pool........most poor people don't smoke or drink soda.......they probably CAN'T afford another pennyy for taxes..........I'm not making a case.....I made an observation........everybody can vote how they want........you say Lee's Summit and Blue Springs have a higher quality of life than Independence?.......,aybe I'll move back to Lee's Summit where poeple don't whine over supporting law enforcement needs.............ROFL...........it AMAZES me.........what I find truly amazing is that you NO VOTERs think that even if you DO vote down this tax?.....that some magical way the city is just going to get the money like Obama....from China or by printing it up in the back room..........they're going to just raise property taxes or find another way to fund what they need.......they're not just going to forget it ..........then you'll end up paying more in the end for all your ingenuity here..............then Elisa can be honored to speak all around Independence as the citizens line up to thank her................at least with theh sales tax increase?.......40% or some figure would be paid by citizens NOT from Independence........buying things here ...........I seriouly doubt that these SAME citizens are going to help you pay higher property taxes...........and don't try to tell me that the city will "find" a way to fund things,..by saving money out of the budget now........because we BOTH know that's not going to happen..............as Elisa so aptly pointed out.........here in the Emerald City we have dog parks and water fountains........OMG..........how 21st century..........we need to be more like Harlem and shut down that waste for the citizens......there's a vision here all right..............of a blighted decrepid city...........let's cut taxes.......let's cut police protection.....wouldn't THAT be even better?.............save more money for lower income people as well as the rest of us..........why pay taxes at all?...........after all....the govt wastes half of it..........just file.......don't pay.......then after 5 -7 years you can hire one of those attorneys on TV that advertise clients who say "we owed $300,000 in taxes to the IRS......but we only paid $50,000......that would make most proud to be an American.............
