Introduction

Hello all,

Just a brief introduction, if you don't mind.

My name is Bill Ivie and I am the new Manager of Information Technology for The Examiner. I am new to the area and still getting settled in, but look forward to getting acclimated and checking out the sights and sounds of Independence and the surrounding areas.

I have four children and am very much a "family man". I am a baseball historian that studies the game and everything about it extensively. I have a degree in Computer Programming and Network Management and have a very diverse background.

I am excited to be starting a new chapter in both mine and my family's life. I look forward to working closely with everyone to improve the quality and efficiency of anything I can.

Bill

I know your introduction is a month old, but may I ask what you meant by "I have four children and am very much a "family man"."? May I ask what a "family man" is? I know it means that you are very devoted to your family but was there any need to say that? (just trying to get to know you better). This is something one blogger might ask another, and you are not really a blogger, so feel free to respond or not respond in any way you want.

Welcome, Welcome!

Nice to meet you.

I'm a pretty big Ted Williams fan, myself. Did you read the book, "The Summer of '49" by David Halberstam? Some excellent baseball history in that book.

We hope you enjoy your new home here! If you're ever at a loss for places to go and things to do, just ask on this blog!

And I highly recommend the upcoming Ethnic Enrichment Festival at Swope Park August 15, 16, and 17

Take care!

Welcome to the blog

Let me be the second one to welcome you and your family to Independence. I don't know if I had a choice if I would move here ,but am glad to see a new face to the staff.
I hope that you enjoy your sight seeing.
Mminnoe is right, we do get started on one topic , and it sometimes varys off on to another one. Most of us speak what we want and some of us speak in the heat of the moment, and then there is those of us who do both.
Some of us are hotheads right Mminnoe, not calling you one just wanting your two cents here .
I hope to see you joining in on the blogs often.
Have a great day and see ya blogging later,

MMinnoe....

Don't scare them off that isn't nice, you are so onry.

Welcome to you and your family for joining Independence and to the examiner. The blog can get weird sometimes and very honest so bare with us, we tend to speak the truth and start some arguments. You won't hardly find anyone in this town that will speak highly of the Royals and I'm not one to speak highly of the Chiefs.

Enter at your own risk on conversation with some of the people we tend to have fun!!!

~Life is too short for idiotic behavior!

As Kelsey Grammar said in Up Periscope….

Welcome aboard….
U know Baseball, U know U have arrived at the home of the best raw talent and the worst teams in History…
This is where Mantel and Maris started and we traded them away…
this has been the biggest disappointing market in the last 50 years.
There was a bright spot with the Brett years and that’s it…
We still find them we just can’t keep em and playem….
Again welcome….

Thanks

Thanks, mminnoe,

I don't agree this is the worst team in History, I moved from St. Louis, so that distincntion will remain in Chicago's northside as far as I'm concerned.

Maris started in Cleveland before he came here, but yes KC did ship him out a bit too soon. Mantle was signed by the Yankees at age 18, so if he had a stop in KC, he was very young, it was undocumented, and he left as a free agent. I don't see this, because the Yanks signed him as an "amateur free agent", which would mean he had no previous professional experience.

I'm excited to be in the home town of Buck O'Neil. I will probably spend countless hours at the Negro League Museum. The history in this area is amazing and interesting.

Funny you mention George Brett when we just passed the anniversary of the "pine tar incident". I still don't think I have ever seen a player that mad in my life.

I must say, and I haven't studied the Royals a great deal, but I don't think I agree with your assessment. I think the big problem is that there is no focus on one area with the team. I think if the team would put a major focus on the farm system, drafting and developing players, they would be competitive. At the same time, if they want a "win now" approach, then go after some free agents and trades and make it happen. I thought that approach was taking hold with the signing of Gil Meche, just to see it flounder from there. There are some issues to address, but I think first and foremost is what direction the team is focusing on.

Hard Drive

We all hope you can get that old hard drive to spin again. You know the one with all the archived stories of the Examiner. You have so many enthusiastic reporters out there. They want to keep in touch with the city's history and politics. In Independence like most places, what goes around comes around again and again.
Not too many long balls hit out-of-the-park here. The bullpen is not too deep either, cause we are all up to our knees in it.
We got your number so expect the phone to start ringing. Keep your ear to the modem and if you get any yen as change out of the vending machine, be sure to put it in the bank cause that may be the only acceptable currency in the near future.
