What's Going On

I've been at The Examiner now for almost five months, and I love my beat. Businesses keep me busy everyday, especially in this fragile economy. When I first started writing my Tuesday column, "What's Going On," I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find something new to write about each week. Now, I have a long list of new businesses opening and topics to write about. I may have missed a story on this, but what is going to be in that big green building under construction on the north side of 23rd Street, between Sterling and Crysler Avenues (I believe near Vermont Street...)? It's a pretty large building for that area, so I'm guessing it's a bank.
Also, I'm curious to see if they have any tenants for that new strip mall north at the NE of 23rd and Lee's Summit, by the Back Yard Burger.
Another curiousity is what plans are being considered for that area east of 291 on the top of the hill between Hidden Valley Road and 39th Street? They installed a traffic light up there about a year ago, but all I've seen so far is a brand new vacant building constructed in that area. Certainly nothing to justify yet another traffic light.
Hello the building you see going up is the new Burger King on 23rd street.
Don't know about the others, but the one on 291 is supposedly a restaurant and an office building. They appear finished. Don't know what the delay in opening is other than the economy.

I have to wonder what’s goin on??? Civil sent in his questions that have not been answered concerning the IRC/MCI TIF’s…….
I think if the EX were conscious they would have been in today’s paper, since it’s the last one before the council vote Monday???
And this is a $10 million $ deal for the city???
But it couldn’t drive off top ten at the K, on the front page, or A Riley on Smoking, Jerry Plantz on ground Zero,O’Riley on ACCORN,??????

U could tell by the meeting last night, the fix is in, Edwards is getting the nod, the deal is moving forward..

Civil thats great news.
Darn it Boy you know we can't work like that. We are in it for the Long xoxoxo Distance. I plan on being at the council. With Civils questions. Oh I am on the "Agenda". If Civil will keep "Blowing Against The Wind". I will do what I can because all it takes is a willing heart and a nice hard head. We are not up against giants. Only the council. Breathe in and out saying Kathryn Kocan Over and Over. xoxo
Before you go to council on Monday it might be a good idea to go the city web site, select agendas then use the agenda search tool. Click on the minutes column at the April 6 meeting. Scroll to ordinance 09-058 and double click it. I'll be posting on it shortly. You could also click on the March 23 meeting and scroll to resolution 09-712. Double click that and you can get the info from the TIF committee meeting. That is interesting as well. BTW, this will be the first reading of the ordinance. I believe there will be a second in about two weeks.

All of this is over my head. It is all so crazy. All we can do is ask our questions and make our paper trail. I wish we could get The Examiner to do more on this but we can't. This is a Big Story and it is only going to get BIGGER.
