An important meeting tonight

An important meeting will take place at 6 tonight at the Truman Memorial Building on West Maple Avenue. The Independence Regional Medical Center Tax Increment Financing Plan Advisory Committee will hear the Truman Manor LLC/MCI proposal – as requested at last week's meeting – and then committees members will make their recommendation.
I've only been an Independence resident for four months, but I already know what an important issue the revitalization of these two former hospitals is to stakeholders and residents alike. I am encouraging anyone with an hour or two of free time this evening to attend this meeting and learn more about the issue. It's very complicated on how the TIF funds are divided up, but plenty of officials will be available tonight to answer questions.

Comments

Committee members recommended the $10 million versus $2 million plan to the Independence City Council, 6-2-1, with Jim Barbour and Gary Hisch opposed. Dick Franklin, an advisory committee member who represents the 2nd District as a citizen, abstained his vote, saying he wasn't present during last week's meeting to hear the Independence Regional Entrepreneurial Center proposal.
